Media Center 11.0.95 Alpha Available
« on: October 05, 2004, 05:20:06 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your view schemes.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110095.exe  [see price link above]

  • Document support with full text searching / indexing
  • Pane auto-sizing
  • Tile view that allows fully customizable Track Info style tiles to be used in file lists

  • Basic image editing
  • Enhanced album grouping for pictures so pictures taken together get grouped without any user intervention
  • Preview mode to only play the intro of songs
  • Video CD playback support
  • Audio resampling uses Shibatch's high-quality SSRC filters

Things are really lookin good guys...

a couple of things.

1. When you go into split view (2 or 3) and then go back to 1, you have to resize the pane to make it useable. Anyway to make this default to half screen when you turn split off?
(Let me know if you want a pic.)

2. I keep on changing my ratings by accident. Is there anyway you guys can create a tag lock?

3. The track mouse overs. Can we have an option to remove the file path? Some of these things just get huge...

Oh and

Bug:  Backup/Restore library is unreliable when used in conjuction with Import/Fix-Broken-Links.

Unfortunately, I can't really give step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce what happened, but I'll do my best to describe things.

  • Fresh install of Windows;
  • Installed/Purchased MC 11 only yesterday (v.11.0.93);
  • Restored backup I made many versions ago (like, v.11.0.63) (this restore went okay);
  • Updated to v.11.0.95;
  • Made new backup;
  • Went to Import to "fix broken links", chose *.flac to import because I have nary a one flac file on my system (rah! rah! ape);
  • Chose to have Import make another backup as it suggested;
  • Things went horribly wrong (see other thread);
  • Tried restoring both my manual backup and Import's automated one, but none of the erroneous "fixed" file links were restored to their original values.
Not only that, but playing these unrestored and now "even more" broken links actually played tracks!  Funny.  The tracks that were played had absolutely no association (in name/album/artist reference I mean) with the original tracks, but they played nonetheless.  (To add to that, the track being played did not match the file listed in the "filename" tag.)

Anyway, as I was typing this, it occurred to me that i could have tried restoring the original backup (from my backup DVD, i.e., the backup I used yesterday), but I have spent the last hour fixing everything, so I would prefer not to try that at this point.  :)

Zone-specific Windows messages don't work
« Reply #3 on: October 05, 2004, 07:39:21 pm »

Windows messages no longer can control a specific zone.  For example, "10003,16777216" and "10003,33554432" both cause a skip to the next song in the active zone instead of the specific zone they are supposed to control.

After burning a data CD or DVD, the drive can't be used by other programs until exiting MC.

DirectX Host Not Visible
« Reply #7 on: October 06, 2004, 12:01:32 am »

When I installed this release and ran it I looked at the DSP Studio and the DirextX Host was visible and my plugin was there and usable.

I closed MC then ran it again.  The DirectX Host is checked but is not visible. If I toggle it on and off the sound changes, so it is active. I just can't change settings or add/remove plugins.

Sadly my ripping speeds still don't go over 2 - mostly around 1.3 whereas with MC10 I get over 5 times.

Same setiings - I've checked and checked. Secure/max.

Can anybody suggest anything please?

TIA. John.

I'm not sure how long this has been there.....

I can't open any 'document' type files, they import ok but they don't appear on the file associations so I can't tick them. When I try to open them, I get the following message - 'The media types of the selected files are not supported for playback. (Data)'

It could be a bug, or something that hasnt been implemented yet.

Should split views be reverting back to 1 view mode when exiting and restarting MC? If so, are there any plans to make an option to tell MC to stay in split view mode?

There seems to be something going on with the "copy Listening To"  button...it  did nothing, then on the third time, sent me to google!  I exited that and then it pasted my song title just fine.   ?

Thanks for adding those extra options to ripping! They're working great!

A couple of questions, though (of course):

Are there any plans to have MC11 be able to write tag data for CUE sheets out to an external file? Either the CUE, the APE, or even some third file? I don't want to get too far into ripping my CDs and then wish I'd been using APL files the whole time...

Alternatively, do you know if there's any chance MC could optionally create the APL files at rip time? I could just delete the CUE sheet from my library, create the APLs using MAC, and then import those, but it seems like a really roundabout route of doing things.  So if either of these is a possibility, then it would be awesome.

Some leftovers:

1. I chose to show the Documents view scheme in Theater view, but it's not there and there's no way to add it via "configure theater view"

2. Pressing EXIT in Theater View always brings me back to Full Screen mode, even if I entered Theater View from the standard view.

Why would you want to access documents from Theater View? Just curious what you're doing (might give me ideas. :) ).

I have asked that and tried to explain why physical files for tags are needed in the Cue file support in MC11 thread.

In my opinion the best solution could be APL files with added support for other filetypes besides APE. That should be possible, because MC can now seek for CUE sheet based MP3, OGG, MPC and WMA files. Actually I have noticed that Foobar2000 can make APL files from CUE+OGG. They can be played with Foobar2000, but not (yet?) with MC.

Maybe MC could just use a slightly modified tagging methodology on the MP3, APE, or what-have-you file?

something like this for all the stuff that's common amongst all the tracks in the album:

ARTIST=Megadeth
ALBUM=Rust In Peace

and then something like this for all the stuff that varies from track to track:

TRACK1NAME=Holy Wars...The Punishment Due
TRACK1RATING=4
TRACK1LYRICS="..."

TRACK2NAME=Hangar 18
TRACK2RATING=5
TRACK2LYRICS="..."

I answered in the Cue file support in MC11 thread. This thread may get locked. (And it is for bugs only  ;) )

1. Access docs from theater view would let me launch certain types of files... easier to launch programs, for example.  Like all the games I want to play, rather than having to make a button for each game.  Unless there's a way to add a "screen" to theater view and attach that "screen" to the main theater view menu, I sorta need this feature.

 Why have the option to "show in theater view" if its not going to be there. :) That's why I thought it might be a bug. Or maybe they're just not done with it yet.

2.  Exiting Theater View going to standard view seems right in some circumstances, but it also seems wrong. It's not intuitive. I never opened fullscreen mode, yet pressing exit brings me there. At first it was confusing the hell out of me.
