Hi guys, long time no see.
I've just received a very nice IBM 'multimedia' keyboard [SK-8815] with extra controls for all sorts of things, including media player controls.
IBM state that in WinXP it is compatible with any media application that registers itself as the 'default media player'.
Checking 'Set Program Access & Defaults' (Bottom left option in 'Add/Remove programs) reveals a choice of iTunes, Quicktime & WMP as media players that can be set as default.
Thing is, for obvious reasons I want to use MC as my default; but, it's not listed.
At present the keyboard control launches WMP as it seems to be the 'current' media player.
I have tried MC with Media Scheduler active & disabled, with no joy.
I've done a little digging & found this:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/programmersguide/shell_adv/registeringapps.aspWhich describes the process of specifying the default media player in fairly straightforward steps. (I think, I'm no programmer)!
Is there any chance this could be added to MC in a future build? I should add I have up to date beta's of MC10/11
If this is the method USB multimedia keyboards use to detect the default media player in XP then I can't be the only one that's missing this functionality...
The full controls are:
Open default Media Player;
Play/Pause;
Stop
Next;
Previous;
Volume Up;
Volume Down;
Mute
I should add I can access all but 'Open Default Media Player' but given the steps in the link above it would seem, to the casual observer, that this would be an easy addition to MC, with nothing but positive benefits.
Of course setting MC as default could already be an option within MC that I haven't found yet.
I look forward to JRiver's comments/observations.
Mike
