MC Playlist Creation Issues for Zen
« on: October 09, 2004, 01:45:40 pm »

I created a playlist for the Zen by showing all the audio tracks in the Zen and then selecting Edit - Select All.  I think I then right-clicked and chose to create a playlist from them all.  The resulting playlist took a VERY LONG time to build (3710 songs) and it had some songs in there twice and others not at all.  This appeared to happen when there were multiple songs with the same name - one would end up in the playlist multiple times, while other songs with the same name didn't make it into the playlist at all.  This is with MC 9.1.319 - does anyone know if ver. 10 behaves this way also?  When I create a playlist in Red Chair Software's Notmad Explorer, it only takes a few seconds and it includes all the selected songs with no duplicates.  I was hoping to just use one program for all my MP3 work though.

Johnas33,

I tried this out a few times just to be sure I got it right, and I didn't get any duplicates of the same song, even though I have quite a few songs of the same name, but different artists.  HOWEVER, if you haven't searched for duplicates there may be songs by the same artist BUT from a different album included in the list.  I tend to cull my library of duplicates (a nifty way is by adding  a smartlist from the playlists tree - right click, choose make new smartlist, then expand the smartlist rules menu and choose possible duplicates).

making a large playlist shouldn't take very long - I have over 13,800 tunes on my Zen, but I made a smartlist (Audio- All) and transfer  it and any other playlist I made and want on the Zen when I do a synchronization  (I just check the playlists that I want and leave the others blank) and check the sync playlists box.  This usually doesn't take very long and it updates the playlists and the Zen with any changes I might have made in MC.  hope this helps.  Bet

Johnas33,

You might consider testing MC 11. Many changes have been made regarding this and the playlist creation should improve. MC 11 is what Bet is running.
