Archos Recorder
« on: September 10, 2004, 10:10:08 am »

How do I get MJ v8 to recognize my Archos Recorder 15?  Can't find a plug in.  Already tried to configure settings/plug in manager/hand held. Also, is there a way to use MJ v8 with an iPod 40gb?

Try renaming the volume label for the Archos to something with the word 'Archos' in it, or the word 'Jukebox'.

Ipod should work in some fashion with MJ8 but the support is somewhat limited. If you want to use iPod and JRiver, you should definitely check out MC 10.

Yes, thanks, the volume is labeled Archos and is assigned as drive F.  I've racked my brain on these posts before asking - MJ should see my Archos, but it doesn't.  Need some more advice please...

Please consider testing and updating to MC 10.

This works in MC10.  Have you all decided how to support in MC11, since the jukebox isn't WMDM compatible?

If anyone has an Archos and is comfortable accessing the registry, please connect your Archos and  go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR\Enum and post the value of the '0' key (assuming you have only one mass storage device installed at the time). It should be something like 'USB\Vid_xxx&PID_xxx'

Thanks,

Thanks.

When you say the Archos is not WMDM compatible, does it not show up at all in WMP or MC or is the functionality limited?

It doesn't show up at all in MC11 as a device, but it does show up as the drive letter when you drill down under "My computer" in the tree.   If you right click it, there's no "synchronize" choice.  In MC10 it had the the "synchronize" choice on the right-click menu.
It doesn't show up at all in Windows Media Player.
If you click the link to microsoft's site, there are only 2 archos devices listed as compatible, not the jukebox models.  http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/devices/

I also checked archos.com and there's no mention of WMDM there, only USB drivers and the latest firmware files.

I'll get you the registry settings in a few.

OK.  Here's what I found.  O/S is Windows 2000.
You have the registry key backwards, I think.  It should be HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Enum\USBSTOR
There's a subkey that references the archos but there is no '0' key.

Anyway,
rather than clutter up the forum with all the text, I exported the registry key and posted it here so you can download it.

Also here is a screenshot of 'My Computer' in Windows so you can see that the device
is recognized as hard drive with the volume label of JUKEBOX.

Here is a screenshot of what it looks like in Media Center 11.

Let me know if you need anything else.

zxsix,

Thanks for the post and the information. I have the registry path correct for Windows XP. I will confirm with 2000 with the players that I have, but could you double check whether the Archos exists in the path I gave as well?

The images from MC 11 and 10 are not surprising because of the way we are enumerating the players.  If I can get the ID (the Vid_xxx&PID_xxx') for your Archos, I will create a way to recognize it from MC.

Thanks for your help.

Here you go.  Thanks for working on this!

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR\Enum]
"Count"=dword:00000001
"NextInstance"=dword:00000001
"0"="USB\\Vid_05ab&Pid_0060\\wwww.archos.comA"

zxsix,

Thanks for the ID. The problem comes in that all file transfers with MC 11 are done through WMDM which solves the issue of the transfer of protected content to devices. The problem with your model of Archos is that it is not recognized by WMDM. To solve this I would need to create a solution which does not rely on WMDM which we are not prepared to do today, but we will revisit this during the continued development of MC 11.

obviously though those particular Archos players don't actually support any kind of protected content.

Archos have Windows Media Player plugins for the Gmini400 and the AV400 because those do support DRM-protected WMAs.

Correct.  It is used strictly for unprotected MP3 files in my case.  I don't transfer any other formats to the portable devices.

Just so the rest of you archos users are aware, today's build adds back support for our archos jukebox devices!  Get it while it's hot.  I just sucessfully synced with my ipod and archos.

zxsix,

Thanks for updating this thread. FYI, the only files you will not be able to send to your Archos are DRM protected wma files.

Archos Recorder V2 Supported in MC 10.0.173?
« Reply #18 on: November 13, 2004, 05:31:53 pm »

The problem comes in that all file transfers with MC 11 are done through WMDM which solves the issue of the transfer of protected content to devices.

Does this apply to 10.0.173?  I've tried naming my Archos as "ARCHOS" or "JUKEBOX" to no avail - it's simply not being recognised as anything other than an external hard drive by MC. So, no synchonization options, it's not in the "Drive and Devices" pane as it is in the "zxsix" JPG posted just above. It instead appears a regular disk drive if I drill down in the "My Computer" sub-folder, with no synch options attached to the option-click. While I can work with this, it is obviously not very satisfactory because I end up having to do playlist synch and related stuff by hand.

The Archos is running Rockbox 2.3 if that makes a difference.

Incidentally, MC on the server just finished a 14-day ReplayGain analysis of 100K files without a hiccup - I was impressed! Kudos.

meehawl,

Try going to Plugin Manager and then select the 'Portable Drives' plugin and select 'Configure'. Enter whatever the volume label is for your Archos and see if it is detected.

You know, I'd tried that and I tried again. Nothing showing on the Device Information fields. Hit "Configure". Enter "JUKEBOX" (same label as device). Hit OK. Still nothing showing on the Device Information fields. Hit "Configure" to check and "JUKEBOX" is pre-populated. Hit OK, still unpopulated Device Information. And so on.

The Portable Drive plugin version is 9.0.126 I am running MC 10.0.173. Is there a mismatch here?

meehawl,

I am not sure. If your Archos appears to the system as a Fixed Drive and has the word 'JUKEBOX' in the volume label name, it should appear.

As I mentioned above, my plugin version is 9.x while the MC version is 10.x. I upgraded on this machine from V9 to V10 instead of a clean install. Could that be an issue?

The plug-in must be for the correct version of MC.  You'll need an MC10 plug-in.

meehawl,

It could be. The plugin for MC 10 is 9.0.126. It is the one that is installed automatically when you install 10.  A reinstall of 10 would assure that the correct one is installed and registered, although that appears to be the case now.

A reinstall did fix it and now the Archos shows up as a device, ready for sync.
