Back-up copies of CDs
« on: October 20, 2004, 02:52:19 am »

Is there any way to copy an audio CD to a file on your hard drive as cda files?  Thanks for all responses.

Not with Media Jukebox. Actually the CDA files are not physically files as we have files on the PC. The audio content is in one stream and those are more like markers for the start/end points. You can rip the audio contents to wave files (or to losslessly compressed Monkey's Audio files) and burn them back to a new audio CD (CD-R/CD-RW disk). The audio information will be unaltered, but it is not an exact copy of the original CD.

Some other programs can make exact disc images.

Could you suggest/recommend any such programs? Would the cda files included in the image that is then saved on your hard drive be readable as audio files and be played with Media Jukebox (or any other similar software)?

Thanks again!

I would suggest ripping your CDs to one of the lossless formats. The quality is the same as the original but about half the size.  FLAC, APE, and WMA Lossless are such formats. APE has the best integration with MC/MJ.
