This has two reasons:
1. I have a tendency to listen to very long songs on my work computer, funeral doom (for those who doesn't know it a typical funeral doom song will be around 20 minutes long) for instance, and then I've got to either remember where I left off or listen to the song all over again.

2. But more important: The carputer/MediaSUV! Now there is something in MC that makes it stop playing around 20 % of the times when hibernating and then resuming again. I believe Dragyn has had the same problem with his carputer. MC locks up at "buffering". This makes it impossible to use because of the WAF (wife acceptance factor), that demands 100 % reliability. My only workaround for this is to use a full stop and then play from the beginning in Girder events for before hibernating and after resuming. Which is why it would be wonderful just to send the computer into hibernation and then have a special play command that in reality stops the playback and then resumes it from where it left off. This will make it a lot more like a regular car CD changer in use, which is something that I'm gunning for. Of course that's a CD changer with more than 2500 CD's in it, so regular may not be the correct word here...

Can I hold my breath, guys? Does it help if I say "pretty please with sugar on it"?

I couldn't agree more. I always have to stop, then play. I wish it would just pick up where it left off.

Count me in, I was just thinking of this this morning when having to restart my computer a few times.

Me too.  My Roku box always starts from the beginning as well as it is a right pain.  This would be a great feature.

Oh, another thing - it should be multi-zone aware, since there are more than one zone playing at the same time when we drive the car here!  ;)

I know it's MC. I have done 100 % clean installs of XP and Win2K just to try this out - with several different sound cards (at least 5) and different drivers. Always the same result - it won't work.

Another use for this function would of course be movies - it could be used to resume a movie from where you left of the day before, like ZoomPlayer does. In ZoomPlayer you can even choose to resume from the last time you saw that movie no matter if you have seen other movies in the meantime.
