irman? rf remote possibilities?
« on: November 05, 2004, 04:50:44 pm »

I bought the irman but yet to open it, after more reading it seems it's an ir? meaning my remote would have to be in line of sight.. I 'd like to be able to just pause play ffwd rewd. skip tracks through my home theater remote? any suggestions on what to buy? that would work?

Greatly appreciated

I use the X-10 MP3 remote here. It's an RF remote that communicates with a RF module that connect to your computer's serial port.

It works great. I really love it in the summer when I use it to control MC from the backyard. Once I bought that remote, I JUST had to wire up speakers on the deck! :-)

(Oh... and it works great indoors too... No line of sight issues... I also use it to control the same machine from my bedroom.)

It's not. I just went to check quickly but I guess the model I bought has been replaced by this one.

It's similar to the one I have, minus the mouse part.

Or, if you have a pda with WiFi then use that with NetRemote.

now that sounds interesting.... so on the pda i could see everything that is on my computer screen? or be able to see the whole media center interface\dvd main lobby on my pda? what do you suggest for a good pda? hardto configure?

Thanks for any info

Also it says in net remote you can control your home theater? does that inlcuding lighting? how does it work? is it like a pronto remote? you just set up your components make the ipaq look like a remote?

Any info would be helpful!!! ignorant when it comes to pdas.. but i'm thinking i may like that route.. which brand do you suggest.. whats the price range? cheapest that will work?

for my home theater remote now is perty Techy, be cool if i could incorporate media center dvd lobby etc. all into one remote not have to use wireless keyboard for theater.. now would i have to use a stylus to push buttons? or can you configure it to have large buttons? to use your fingers... again like a pronto.. I don't have a prnoto now but have used them in the past and also configured them...

Ok enough for now and thanks
