yeah, this is barely worth starting a new thread for, but whatever.  

i was wondering if the "number plays" column could be the number of times the song started playing, instead of what it is now which is the number of times its finished playing.  this would be greatly appreciated!

Im not sure what it is now, but we have been through this a few times on the board in times past. The options are:

1. when it starts playing

2. when its over 50% through playing

3. when it finishes playing

4. various refinements of the above.

There are a number of differing opinions and arguments - all valid. For JRiver I think this boils down to 'you cant please everyone'. To be honest, I thought MC used 2 above at the moment rather than 1, but Ive probably lost touch.

any future possibility of being able to set it in the options screen?  like, maybe

Options>Tree and View>Advanced="Tag Files as Played: Start; Halfway; Finish"

note: i have mc10, so options screen might be different.

We currently use #2. (the half-way mark)

That way, if a song starts, and is quickly skipped by the user because it's bad, it won't end up in the 'Top Hits' list.

However, perhaps we can add it as an advanced option to MC 11 if there are enough people that care.

for the record, the first post was at 1216, and by 149 there were 2 clear responses (depends on time zone)

marskid - hang around, and you get used to quick responses from the developers.

Seeing as I responded first Ill make a vote for you. Im happy with the 50% rule, but Id vote for an option if it helps avoid these conversations in the future. It is a reasonably frequent and popular request.

Im guessing its somehow simpler than smartlist wizards to implement (Id vote twice for that :)).
