ANYONE:Different result most of the time.
« on: November 12, 2004, 12:37:18 pm »

Am I The only one that has this problem?

I will start a new thread on this.  Is there anyting I can do to help you fix this?

I HAVE A SCHEME OF THIS
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name,artist

I PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~nodup=ARTIST

(found 20)  locate name

ALT (BACK ARROW).  found 10.

Started over found 14

started over found 11

Works great to find misspelled Artist.  When I change the artist name and use ALT (BACK ARROW). I find more duplicates than showed up the first time.  If I go forward and back sometimes it finds more sometimes less.  (Not sure when this started).

MORE INFORMATION.

if I hit f5 to refesh here are the counts.

12
14
16
8
12
10
14

more info yet

If I do the SCHEME OF THIS
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name, artist the count stays correct each time I hit f5

if I only do this  ~nodup=ARTIST in the seatch box the count is correct each time I hit f5

If I do both. the count has been as low as 5 and as hight as 24

If a SCHEME OF
~dup=name
THEN PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~nodup=ARTIST

then keep hitting F5. and the results are differnt each time.

Am I missing something???

OK. went back to version 10,

 If a SCHEME OF
~dup=name
THEN PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~nodup=ARTIST

then keep hitting F5. and the results are differnt each time.

(I like the way Version 11 works much better),  but I don't understand why It gives you differnt results.

 If a SCHEME OF
~dup=name
THEN PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~dup=ARTIST

then keep hitting F5. and the results are the SAME each time.

only thing I can think of is the search box is performed first, then the view scheme.

if you add ~nodup first in the view scheme, you get what you described. If you add it to the end, then it works.

I think I read that ~ is always performed first. Can't remember.

This gives me what I want

~dup=name,md5texthash ~nodup=artist ~dup=name,md5texthash

but if you hit f5 to refresh it changes the results every time.

I have seen the numbers start at 28 with a fresh load of MC. ( I lied.. after several runs' it also comes up with varied results.) then high of 40 low of 2 with f5  (each display looks correct)

shouldn't you be using []?

[name] [artist] etc?

Anyway, maybe there is a bug in it that needs squishing.

tried it with the [] no change.  I found I only needed the bracket when there was a space in the name [track #].

Yes I think there is a BUG.  (I don't think this is something new in version 11)

Dragyn was right -- the search box is run before the view scheme, causing the behavior you're seeing.

We'll switch it next build, but then there may be other strange things.  It's probably best to make a smartlist to combine several post-processors like that.

THANKS.

I will Play with a SMARTLIST, new tricks for this old dog.  1st question,  is there anyway to edit a smartlist like you can edit scheme?

next:  Matt (not sure if you saw this post I made)

It was still more fun to play on then the Philco 2000 http://w3.uwyo.edu/~jimkirk/philco.html that Iwas working on at the time  (and it was faster)  Matt should have everyone go to this site if they ever complain about his sort speed.

Thought you might get a kick out of it..  Again THANKS
