When I go to a record shop, the Album are ordered by Arstist name or Artist name First letter.
Frank Zappa is to Zappa or Z.
In media center, the artist is ordered by the way you entered it.
I enter the name : First name - Last name.
So Frank Zappa is localized to "F".
Is there a possibility to disjoint the first and last name.

Hi! What about using the three sorting tags ( Id3v2.4., i think): Artist, album-, title sort. ( artistsort: Zappa, Frank). There are many Titles that begin with a number or something else. With that tags everybody is free to sort by his own needs.

Does Mc incluse Id3v2.4 tags and if yes, how do I select the kind of sorting

I think you can't use it. It was a suggestion for a new feature. I can't wait till MC has a full ID3v2.4 support: the sorting tags, the musician credits list, the involved people list. (AND!!: the possibility to define in what frame the content of a new added column should be put; f.e: I would like to put my infos about the label in the frame TPUB(Publisher) and not in the comment field)

What about creating these fields in the MC11 database Comp_First for the First name and Comp_Last for the last name of the composer / Artist.

Then you can just sort the way you like

Ok thanks but Go a little further please,
I create fields (comp_first and comp_last). I do not fill all the fields (too long or some artists have nickname like "Cat power")
I rearrange the view :
Mediatype
Comp_Last
AlbumArtist(auto)
Etc..
So the view show in firs the artist who have a Comp_last field filled.
Then appears the other.
I would like to melt every artist without having to fill all the comp_last field.
Like "if comp-last==null go to artistalbum(auto)"

I think there would be another approach but you'll have to evaluate how time consuming could it be. It depends on the size of your collection.

Just create a new field named "Artist Sort". Populate the new field by copying all your current "Artist" field info using the relative feature (Copy fields?) under Library Tools.

Now a little work on your new field: Just leave it as it is for those artists/groups that you want to sort with their real name... for instance, Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Travis, Coldplay... it will normally be the "groups".  For the single artists such as Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits or Van Morrison, change the info on the "Artist Sort" field to "Zappa, Frank", "Springsteen, Bruce" "Waits, Tom" or "Morrison, Van"... you only have to do it once for each artist currently in your collection.

Now, you can use the "Artist Sort" field in your view scheme instead of your standard "Artist" field.

Don't forget to fill the "Artist Sort" field every time you add new albums to your collection.

It should work... don't know if it will be worthy for you, though.
