M-Audio Audiophile Firewire
« on: December 19, 2004, 07:26:27 pm »

Hi--

Curious if any one here is using the M-Audio Audiophile Firewire as an external sound card.

If so, how goes?

Hi,

I was evaluating M-Audio Audiophile F/W too.  I believe a good external professional device will enhance the music qaulity, with a good interconnect cable.

I finally purchased the LEXICON OMEGA which I believe is more cost effective, but only uses USB 1.1.  I have not personally heard the M-AUDIO, but some of the audio engineers I met at a few apple shops thinks that the LEXICON OMEGA is excellent compared to the M-AUDIO.  I tried it on my PC and found that it was better than my Terretec Aureon.

I've just ordered my iMAC G5.  I hope it will sound great with the LEXICON.

Apparently, LEXICON is well known in the professional audio engineering circle.

What's it connected to? I mean, what preamp and amp?

Hi BC,
I have one and was very impressed with the change in sound quality over the built in sound on my laptop. Record quality is excellent.
I had issues if I had a firewire drive online with so I stuck the drive in an USB2 case no more clicks and pops. Also if you have installed SP2 on Win XP I found that the unit was fussy in the order you powered up so I reinstalled the firewire drivers form sp1 instructions and reasons on this site

Hope this helps

Thanks for the feedback.

The source is a HP ZT 3000 laptop Windows XP PRO.

The output is to a nOrh SE 9 integrated tube amp driving a pair of nOrh 3.0 Prisms. The room is an 18 foot square library/study lined completely with built-in bookshelves--hardwood floor.

The laptop/sound gear are brand new. I bought all the stuff for a friend in California. I was out there in November and set up the computer but the sound stuff shipped late from Thailand. So  I'm back in New York and my friend who is a total technophobe will be installing the M-Audio on his own.

This should be interesting... ;)

I have an M-Audio FW Audiophile, and it works great with MC10. Significant improvement in sound quality.
