Hello all --

I'm a newbie to this forum but fascinated by the potential of some of the stuff I am seeing here.

I am paying someone to install a multizone receiver (Speakercraft MZC-66) with 6 keypads (for purposes of sourcs select and volume only) placed around the house. For 2 or 3 of the sources into the receiver, I plan to have an m-audio card from my cpu (like the delta 410) supplying those sources. I want to run Musiclobby with MC11 underneath on this server PC. I plan to have 2 tablet pcs or airpanels acting as remote controls in the house for the purposes of server PC music selection (each with musiclobby, and musiclobby server on the server PC). All of this stuff so far seems to be a fairly routine or common setup.

If possible, I would like to allow each MC11 zone (when accessed on the tablet pcs or airpanels) to "see" a different library. I.E. Zone 2 could be the "kids" zone where kid-friendly music files can be selected to play. Since the kids only seem to like a handful of CDs, it would be nice if the library for their zone only included the ripped CDs they like so that they wouldn't have to wade through the rest of the entire ripped CD collection to get to their favorites (i.e. via the musiclobby jukebox interface).

To me the simplest solution seems to be assigning a different library to each of the MC11 zones. Is this possible?

If you're spending all that money on the distribution network then you might want to consider just using a different MC server for each of them.  There are enough odd little problems that can crop up with switching zones that, at this point in time it seems like much less of a headache to just drive them from independent instances of MC.  Given that MC is cheap and a a PC for doing this can be had for around $200-$400 it might be worth considering.  Not really a direct answer about using the current MC11 for it but sometimes an indirect solution is less of a headache.

Thanks for the response.  Is it possible to run multiple simultaneous instances of MC on the same computer?

I don't think it is possible to run multiple instances of MC.

MCMultiView, my interface plugin for MC11 allows you to assign a different View Scheme to each zone so you could set up a special view scheme for a particular zone that filters out unwanted Genres, etc.  However, it runs on top of MC11 and is designed for multiple output video cards or multiple video cards with an extended desktop so I don't think it will fit into your Musiclobby/tablet pc plans.  See http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=24237.0 for more info.

The third-party program Netremote may be useful in your setup.  Search for it on this forum and look at www.promixis.com.

This is so easy to do in NetRemote that I'm smiling here!  You use NetRemote, force every remote (PPC, airpanel, whatever) to only use that one zone (easy, but you'll have to install NetRemote first, then I can help you through it - get to the Promixis forum), and then simply sed Library root to the view scheme you want to use for that zone, Children's music and so on. Just forget about Music lobby, this is something NetRemote will do a lot better and easier. Also, I have created a playlist selecter for Girder (also at Promixis) that will let you puch 1-4 digits on anything, from a keypad to an IR remote, and get the album or play list associated with that number.  That may work in your setup.

Hey, maybe the easiest way would be for you to pay my trip over to the US (if that's where you live), so I can set that up in a day, and then spend a couple of weeks roaming the country!
