MC sorta kinda sees new IPOD
« on: January 04, 2005, 04:44:11 pm »

Upon first plugging in IPOD, i got a message (It was in all CAPS, Something like "MC has not stored information about this device") IS THIS THE INITIALIZE Process everyone talks about? I hit ok, and 2 seconds later, IPOD showed up in my "Drive and Devices Tree"  I clicked on Handheld Devices / Ipod in lower left hand Corner, dragged some files over and hit transfer but no go.  Now I notice that in tha same "Ipod" box in lower left corner, under the word OPTIONS, it says "No Device".  I have reset it, unplugged reset, all combinations - No Luck. The Portable Device Plug In is at version is 11.0.20 & System Info explains the rest below..

I could be doing something really stupid guys, so dont overlook the obvious but all I know my wife is saying "but my Dad (computer illiterate) said it was SO EASY TO USE, why are you (software Engineer) hav ing so many problems?

One more thing - When I go to IPOD in DRIVES & DEVICES Tree, I see all of my songs waiting, "In Queue."  This is probably stating the obvious, but in case...........jeff

Guys - I finally figured it out.  I was hesitant to load the supplied IPOD SW on my system because I hate iTunes kinda junk, but didnt realize that there is "some" iPOD sofgtware that must be loaded for Windows to recognize the drive and for the iPOD file structure to be built.  I just manually halted the install once that part finished and iTunes started (even though it didnt ask me if I wanted to)

Now, over to MC and everything works exactly like you would expect.  Jeff

br1dge,

To avoid future hassles, please turn off the option in iTunes to automatically start when iPod is connected.
