Media Centre in the Car!
« on: January 07, 2005, 08:01:54 pm »

Hello, all and thank you for a very good product. However I am currently looking for a product that I can use on a 8" touch screen in cars. This product is fine accept is it possable to make it startup in theatre mode? And can I make the back and forwards buttons much bigger .

Many thanks in advance.

You might want to talk to Dragyn. IIRC, he's the resident car PC expert. :)

At least with Girder you can  make it start up any way you want. And theater view is skinnable, so that should be possible. I use it in my car, but that's without a monitor.

You're not thick, just new in the field!  ;D Girder is a program that can control anything in a computer and anything outside it that can be controlled by IR, X-10 and several other means. Then you have NetRemote from the same company that works as a touch screen remote controller on very heavy steroids.

I run my car system with an older used IBM laptop connected via a usb cable to a 200gig HD. The laptop is connected to the car stereo via an aux connection and the line out of the computer. Not the most elegant setup, but it works quite well.

the vehicle is a 1964 Ford Econoline (40 years old this year - I've had it for 21 yrs) with the engine between the seats, which is where the laptop resides.

BTW hear's a link for car systems:
