Wireless server problem on import
« on: January 14, 2005, 10:50:51 pm »

I posted a tech support request serveral days ago and have received no reply. Please advise regarding this matter ....

Attempting to import music library of apprx. 13K clips from server via wireless LAN to Dell 2400 desktop running XP and latest version of MC10. MC will crash during import session from anywhere between a few hundred and few thousand clips. Another computer on same wireless network imports fine, though it's running W2K. (Note: this latter computer experienced similar crashes whereupon I changed to Map Drive, which cured the problem. Map Drive is also configured on the subject Dell.). Is there a fix? Is XP the culprit? Please help, thanks.

I've definitely heard some people have problems with WiFi and XP.  I have also heard that Service Pack 2 corrects these problems.  Do you have SP2?

It sounds like your problem has nothing to do with MC.  Networking problems can manifest themselves in strange ways sometimes.

This is just a guess.  The problem could be in MC, but I don't think so.  I think there is a bug in Windows wireless networking somewhere that causes the network software to hang.

You can try fooling around with the network card settings.  Make sure you force the speed to something rather than letting the card automatically set it.  There was a problem AlexB posted about a few months ago in this area.
