Retry for help: No Cover Art
« on: October 11, 2002, 09:00:07 am »

Let me try again.

I installed MJ on my server and all worked quite well.  I could rip CDs to MP3 and would get cover art as I should.

Now I am unable to receive cover art for any CD I have and I'm at a loss as to what might have changed.  I've installed MJ on 3 different systems with the exact same results.  I have also completely de-installed MJ, including libraries, re-installed with the latest version and ripped the exact same CD I had success with in the past with the same results...no cover art.

When I do a "GET" from internet, a dialog box pops up saying "sownloading images" with "Getting cover art for..." the album name.  After a few minutes the dialog box goes away with no image in the Image...Media File Properties dialog box with the text "Location: no image(s)".

Can someone please give me a few ideas to try or suggest why what once worked fince now fails on 3 different systems?

Sorry Tom, but that get cover art thing isn't an exact science.

I can say that version 9 works better than 8, but it's probably too early to use 9, unless you're really brave.

Thanks for the reply.  It's definitely a mystery as it worked so well once.  My target system is a dedicated HTPC.  I'll just re-image it for fun and see if that "resets" the broken bits.  Stranger things have happened.

You could always backup your library, install 9, get the cover art, uninstall, and put 8 back.  You might even find that 9 is good enough already.

And thanks for being so cool about it.

Great idea!  I tried it and it worked fine.  Go figure.

Issues like these are a small price to pay for the flexibility you've put into this product.  The flexibility of the program with extensive personal customization options (I'm a big fan of lossless compression via Monkey Audio) makes this program far superior to MusicMatch.

Thanks for all the help.

I can see how it could be difficult to get the cover art working well.  Lets say I wanted to go get jpegs myself from amazon.com or something, is it possible so that MJ would see it?

well there are problems with MJ9 and cover art.

one of them i found last week but i did not report was.

Use Loose find, this will find the wrong coverart (not on all i would hope). then do a normal search for cover art and use always replace.

MJ will not overwrite the old cover art in the mp3 file with the new one.

I am in the same boat as you. Cover Art over the Internet used to work fine but stopped working completely around a week ago.

I just tried to get cover art too off the internet for the first time on latest MJ 8 build while connected. It says it is retreiving but I get nothing...

It is a mystery to me where and how MJ is supposed to pull cover art from.. and can these settings be changed?

If someone could post a definitive explanation that would be helpful..

Make sure you have a current version.  Not all albums will be found.  You can find art anywhere on the Internet, right click and copy the image, then paste into MJ.

If MJ doesn't find cover art, I simply use the "Find Artist" feature and grab the cover art from AMG.  Works fine.  Having said that, MJ 9 is MUCH BETTER than 8 in finding cover art.
