Network activity problem
« on: January 28, 2005, 09:36:03 am »

It started in 180.  Every time a new song plays, I get my Norton fire wall pop up telling me that Media Center is trying to access the internet.  Do you access the internet for every song?  Seems odd.  What is going on?

Once I allow, everything is fine until the next song starts.

I am moving back to 179 where all was better.

Tx,
Are you running a third party plug-in like audioscrobbler?

No, plain vanilla with some plugins from KingSparta, but they don't seem to work anymore.

I am now getting from Norton firewall the following msg
Malicious script detected   and the file is Media Center.exe
So I stopped the script and it ended the mediacenter program.
The only plug ins I downloaded after going to 180 then to 181 was the various KingSparta plugins.  and when I try to access some of those I get a "not able to connect" msg.
Any suggestions....

Thanks JimH

Outbound TCP connection
Remote address, service is (www. adsgone. com(207.191.129.164),http(80))
Process name is "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Media Center.exe"

Where is this coming from?

Uninstall all third party software.

Clean your machine with adaware or similar and check for viruses.

Error messages are often wrong.  Norton may be incorrect about the program doing it.

I did some checking - this behavior is NOT from Media Center, in spite of what Norton says.
You should run a virus checker and spyware detector immediately.

I added some spaces in your links so they aren't active here.  Try a google search for these sites to see if you can find any info on problems linked to them.  Don't visit the sites as they could try to infect your machine.

I reinstalled 11.0.179 and all is well.
I have run adaware, sypbot, microsofts new beta, and found some potential problems, but I can tell you that 11.0.180 and 181 may be problems.
Again 179 works fine.

If you've fixed some problems, try downloading again.

Where is this coming from?

A thought: Media Center is DRM-compliant...is it possible that you're playing files (WMA/V?) that have had their DRM containers hijacked?  Microsoft noted this as a security flaw weeks ago.  What happens if you play these same files in Windows Media Player?
