WRITE error
« on: September 21, 2002, 01:16:45 pm »

I just downloaded MJ8.0 and paid for it.  I am getting the following error when trying to write to CD.

'WRITE' command failed on device 1:1:0  Unexpected TARGET error (04h 00h 04h)

I am using Sony CD-RW CRX160E, which is in the list of supported devices.

Some help would be appreciated.

Please check the FAQ on CD burning.  It's under Help / FAQ at the top of this page.

You can also copy your System Info from Help in the program and paste it here.

I will get you the system info tonight, but it appears as though MJ works if I use the generic driver.  This is good and bad: At least I can write, but now the 2 second gap is an unchangeable default.  For now my system info is: running Windows XP, Sony CD-RW CDRX160E, and MJ 8.0.

I've gotten this error a couple of times and haven't determined the cause, but in my case it appeared that the drive got kind of hung up and shutting down and restarting took care of the problem.
If you're on Win2K or XP, you could try updating the aspi software to 4.71. Also check the FAQ and "cd burning tips" as Jim suggested.
Perhaps you want to be a beta tester for our new generic burning software which doesn't put the two second gap between tracks.

I did try the recommended steps under help/cd burning.  None of the recommendations worked.  The one FAQ that sounded the close to the error I am getting was the XP question.  Anyway, like I mentioned the two suggetions did not work.

In reference to the beta for generic driver without 2 second gap, yes I would be interested.  I would like to remove the 2 second gap, if I had that then I would set.  I will check into the ASPI update suggestion.

Thank you!

One other note:  I already have aspi 4.71.10

Please let me know, if the beta for no 2 second gap is a possibility.

Check the setting of "Use internal aspi..." on the CD writer settings page. Try changing this option and restarting MJ and see if it makes any difference.

The beta generic driver will be ready soon. Please send me an email and I'll get you a copy when it's ready.

Thanks,

Right now the aspi layering option is checked so I will uncheck it and let you know what happens.  Probably later tonight.

Thanks!

Unchecking the aspi layering setting did not help.  I still got the same error message.

If you are using any other software to write the CD, try uninstalling it and rebooting.

I do have Roxio's CD Creator suite, which I am using for the time being since MJ is not working properly.

I will give it a try and let you know what comes of it.

I had this same problem; tried all the stuff in the FAQ's with no change.  However, MJ did burn correctly before I reloaded my rig.  I knew it was something that I had not installed before that was causing the problem.  I've been using external IDE controllers ever since my first 4X burner.  What I remembered is an old problem with IDE drivers w/ UDMA conflicts (DVD Rom Playback).  The problem was indeed my SIS IDE drivers that I installed from the Asus site.  Prior to rolling these back I could select "Generic Driver"; after rebooting I could no longer select it.  Works great now!  :D

Here is the version info for the driver that did not work.

[version]
signature="$Windows NT$"
Class=hdc
ClassGuid={4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Provider=%SiS%
DriverVer=12/13/2001,5.1.2610.0002

Here is my info. from MJ.

From what you have written, I am not sure as to what exactly you did to resolve the issue.  Can you point out the steps you took.

Thanks!

Hi,

I am not having a problem with burning as such (I was but dled the latest version and it seems fine now) however I was wondering I do I deselect the generic driver.  It is greyed out on my machine.  I have a Mitsumi 24x12x40x CDRW which is a supported device.  The reason I ask is I did a test CD and it added the 2 second gap which I could really do without!!  How can I make it so I am able to unselect this item?  Does this involve upgrading my aspi layer?  I will post my system info

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.379
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: AMD Athlon 1539 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 392 MB, Free - 106 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

First I need to ask you two questions.

What chipset do you have on your motherboard?

How are your drives setup?

My system information was posted earlier, if that helps.  The drive setup is DVD master, CD-RW slave.

Hi... I'm closely following this thread as I posted about a similar problem, only my DAO error message mentioned unable to detect drive speed.  My system info is below... my frustration is that for one glorious disk, my system DID burn a CD using the ASPI setting... but since then, unless I use the generic driver,  I get my DAO error about "unable to detect the speed."  I have the 4.71 ASPI drivers installed, I am using the same media (from the same package) that I used when I had the one success... I have the paid version of MJ and am now running the 8.03279 version... I have checked my Windows 2000 Device Manager settings, and the ATAPI controller is set to do DMA transfers...I know it works, because it worked once... I have not knowingly changed anything since it did work... (I have tried using different speed settings, all the way down to 1X, but again, I just can't get the  non-generic driver does not work.)

jimc-

Not sure what the answer to your problem is. I assume it works ok with other software so it isn't a hardware issue? A couple of things:
1. try unchecking the "use internal aspi" option.
2. We will be updating our non-generic burning software shortly. There is no specific bug fix for the problem you mention but it would be worth trying to see if it helps.
3. I am close to having an "alpha" version of our new generic burning engine ready which doesn't have the 2 second gap issue. Send me an email if you're interested in being a guinea pi... ahem...  beta tester  :P

I am still interested in being a beta tester of the no 2 second gap generic driver.  Is this still an option?

I have still been unable to get Media Jukebox to work without the generic driver.

Thanks!

Keep an eye on version 9 releases this week.  That's where it will be.  Just take a look at the history included in the post announcing each release.
