Possibility of removing cover art from just iPod playlist
« on: February 17, 2005, 11:39:25 am »

I am interested in the possibility of removing the cover art from the the files that I am transferring to my iPod but not from the original parent files in my library. Since the cover art is not useful on the iPod, the files would be smaller without it and allow me more space.
Is there any way to do this without removing the cover art for the original files. If so, how is the best way to do it.
I am not even sure that if this is possible, that it would free up enough space to be worth it.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

MC doesn't require that you embed cover art in the file. It can track artwork separately from the MP3s. If you're getting your album-art-embedded MP3s from another source then you'll have to maintain separate versions with and without cover art, but unless the cover art is large relative to the music stream (and it shouldn't be) then there is relatively little impact.

I doubt that you can leave the cover art embedded in one side of the sync.
Is there a reason you want the images embedded in the files? MC does not require them to be.
But, I just looked at my folder.jpg files. I have only "thumbnail" sized cover art, about 200*200 pixels. The biggest is around 16 k, average looks to be around 9k.

So, it would take a goodly number of files to impact storage space on any reasonable size device.

I had not thought of checking the total size of my cover art folder, but after doing so, noticed that the total cover art was only about 18mb and only about half of those artist are on my 20gig iPod playlist, which would not really affect my storage capacity...
At the bitrate I am ripping that would only add 2 or 3 songs........... so it would definately not be worth it....
Thanx for your opinions~~~
