how to correct in YADB
« on: October 20, 2002, 06:52:47 am »

I find cds with mistakes.
But if i correct it and upload look like i am doing double
entrys.

Exemple:
Blues Travellers  Straight on Till Mornin

I corrected to Morning.
But now there is 2 entrys in YADB: Mornin and Morning.

I wrote down the cds with mistakes.I can correct as soon as you tell me how to do it

I agree with this,

the quality of info in YADB isnt that great - there are many albums without genre ..... this is a pain for those of us that file by way of Genre ... me! also i find that genres are often hilariously inaccurate .... it reminds me of the way people view films - take "Texas chainsaw massacres" - some people reckon its a horror - others think its a great comedy

So the point is that it would be handy if the d/b info could be ammended - not just duplicated!

Cheers

The quality of YADB is the one of FreeDB one or two months ago.No more no less.
I am one of the volunters who try to clean up YADB.
What can you do with stupid people putting Falco in Opera and Frank Sinatra in New Age ??!!!??.
If i was part of the JRiver gang i would do genre upload impossible.
If you go a lot with genre ,better you fill it yourself. You know what you are doing.
With MJ you can even make any kind of genre you want.
Yes lisible only by MJ.

Plasticland is Paisley underround ,not rock
Giant Sand is Desert Rock not rock
Candlemass is Doom Metal not Metal only

To get it ,you have to do it yourself

Try to upload a cd to cdbb and tell me about the genre section. As much stupid as they are F--G bastards.

There is a band you do not know about, but who did a lot of records : Best Of.
Here some albums they did: Eaggles-U2-Rolling Stones and thousand others.
And trust me ,if you can find Rolling Stones by Best Of,buy it ,it is very good...

Listening to Gleen Gould  -Bach: the Golberg Variations
on lp
But who knows maybe it is Bach playing Gleen Gould .In this case Alternative Country can be  the genre.

Nothing against you, just wondering is allowing mongoloides  on the web is wise

I'm open to suggestions. The problem is difficult:

If you give the ability to update to everyone, how do you prevent Perry Como fanatics from changing everything to Perry Como's greatest hits?

If you give the ability to delete, how do you prevent deletion of the entire database (this one is covered for now, but it's not a scalable solution).

My current idea (and it's not working great) is that you add a new CD with the extra info, and eventually the older CD will be removed as a duplicate.

I'd like to make this better, any ideas?

Would it be possible to have a sort of one use log in name where if you spot an error or a duplicate you can obtain a one use name to do it that expires as soon as you have.  Maybe some kind of cookie??

Just ideas

John
As you say ,there is no way to let anyone/everyone messin around.
Making double entrys can be the 'less bad' solution.
Means a permanent state of update in another hand.
You may find some to help on the long run.
I am ok to be one of them.I do not do much at once but i am so stubborn that i can do it on the long run without problem.

I start to understand why both cdbb and FreeDB are far from  perfect, not so easy to run a clean data
