Scheme to list DRM 'ed Files?
« on: February 17, 2005, 03:13:13 pm »

Is there a way to create a scheme or view with files to show all DRM'd files in your library.   (I want to remove them, as I no longer us/have Napster and they dont work well with MC)  Or, I could just put a filter in to NOT PLAY DRM'd files for me ... (I share with other users on my LAN)

I was not aware that MP3 supported DRM.

Are all your WMAs from Napster/DRM'd?

Well, yeah, it does matter. If they are all WMAs and you have no other WMAs, it would be easy to get rid of them. If you have a mix of protected and unprotected WMAs it becomes harder.

It's a mix of protected & unprotected.

Then unless you can find a unique thing about the protected files, you will get to find them one by one. Hey the older version of Winamp 5.07 (6,5,4..) has been disabled for playback of drm'd files.

Dump 'em all in that and what does not play, delete it.

Unfortunately, I have over 50,000 files ... and only a couple hundred or so have DRM .. which causes most of the analysis/plugins/conversions to crap out when they hit them (if Im not there, which Im normally not) ... and when played via Library Server, it also causes the local install to lock up until you go in and click CANCEL or OK on the popup for DRM.

I dont think this would be any easier by running it through WinAMP ... 50,000 files is a LOT to work with.   I was just hoping for an easy SmartList or something ... Maybe someone can write a  plugin (hint hint King ;) ) ... that we could mark another field like "DRM" as Yes/No :)

Could you use a different library for sharing?  Take a look at File/Library/Library Manager.  Set up a new one in a different location, cloning from the original, then remove the files that cause problems and share that library.

then remove the files that cause problems
Again, this is EXACTLY what I WOULD do if I could identify the files ... unfortunately, this is exactly what I cannot do.   Everything I try to do (Analyze Audio, Kings Plugins, etc) when they hit the DRM'd files, it asks to go to a site or click OK/Cancel .. I have over 50,000 files to go through ... I cant just sit here and write down all the files that cause issues ... it takes days to let any automated process run through ..

You can find all protected WMA files just by using Windows Explorer. First search for the .wma files. Change your view to Details and in Choose Details check "Protected". You can sort the search results by clicking the "Protected" column label.
