Document management and watch folders
« on: November 13, 2004, 07:11:44 am »

I would really like to use MC to organise my thousands of document and graphic files as well as my music as it is the most powerful organiser I have come across.

For me to do this I would need some sort of watch folder thing and to be able to view documents as thumbnails. In this way I can view downloaded items as they are saved to a folder and catalogue them. I can do this with other programs but none of them are as powerful as MC at data management.

Is there any chance this will happen in MC 11?

Thanks.

MC11 can do this.  There is still work to do, but it currently will import doc, pdf, html, and so on.  You can tell it which folders to import and which to exclude.

Currently, you'll need to run an import manually.  We've built the auto variety but I don't believe it is turned it on yet.  I may be wrong.

So, watch folders is coming soon  ;D

What about documents as thumbnails?

Unfortunately I need both to be able to use MC 11 for what I want  :-\

Cheers.

King Sparta has a program to watch folders... I am not sure if it works with docs or not...

Maybe we will chime in here...

Any chance of a reply to my second question regarding doc thumbnails?

it uses *.* as a search parm so everything is imported every so many mins the user can set.

They say folder monitoring will be happening soon, I can wait a bit longer.

Still waiting for an answer about the thumbnails though.

Should I take the lack of any sort of response to mean this isn't even being considered?

You can view thumbnails now (try ctrl-u several times) but they don't encapsulate the contents of the documents themselves.  We'd like to do this and I think we'll be able to, but I can't say exactly when.

Hey guys, just thought I would bring this up again.  I would love to see selective folder monitoring.  I have some files that are automagically downloaded and I would love to see MC automagically import them.

Thanks!
