Fading and layers in visis

How do you fade a multilayered visi? I've tried a transform in each layer, or a transform overall, with all combos of add/replace/blend, and I'm stuck.

The only thing I've got to work at all is having the layers set to blend with a transform in each one. Unfortunately it makes the whole lot so dark its near black. Increasing the colour equation values in fade doesnt help, each layer is maxed out but when added and displayed the loonynance goes way down.

Any ideas welcome!
