Pride
« on: February 27, 2005, 02:45:35 pm »

I think you should do a default skin that
ships with Media Player that has your (American) flag on it in the corner.
As a Software Engineer, I think it's a feat of Engineering
and piece of Artwork in it's own right!

People don't see the value of Software, just presume they should
get it for free or as little as possible, when they don't
understand what goes into it!

If it were a building, it would be one of the high risers!
A very nice looking and earth friendly one at that!

If anyone don't understand this then you probably put
sweat and blood in to coding something!
(The blood comes when your banging your head agaist the screen, The sweat is when you've been working for 15 hours solid
and accidently loose everything you've done, despite having some
of the most advanced (usually unusable) source management tools.)

How I Might Agree With You About Pride In Your Country

I Do Believe The World Is Bigger Then The Borders Of The U.S.A. And I Think We All Wish That Media Center Sells To Many Users In Many Countries (Including France And Germany).

I'm with Sparta on this one.

There's more than enough American flag-waving and jingoism in the world right now, and plenty of people in plenty of countries don't appreciate it.

I hope J River concentrate on making the best software package they possibly can, and take pride in what they've achieved.  The other things they believe in as individuals should remain outside the scope of this excellent, international, Media Player.

I couldn't agree more, check out this article for a very refreshing view on the whole idea. http://www.spunk.org/library/writers/goldman/sp000064.txt

It's funny tho, people wouldn't say that
if it were Brit Software (Not that we make much).
Maybe not American flag then.
Does each state have it's own flag out of curiosity?

Can you believe they sing the national anthem (everyone stands) at every league tournament be it baseball, footbal or basketball even hockey. This is for domestic games.

Imagine doing that at a football stadium in england ..or any other country for that matter ;)

I wonder when that started Always, WWI, WWII, ?

I never understood that really

I don't go to many games since i hate sports, and the closest thing i do that comes closest to sports it taking the trash up to the curb.

In north america you will actually here both anthems if the teams are from across the border.
For example if the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Boston Red Sox you will hear the Canadian followed by the American anthem before the start of the baseball game.
Another interesting thing is that, at least in hockey, it is not necessarily the anthem that is sung. For example in Philadelphia you may hear God Bless America instead of The Star Spangled Banner before the start of a hockey game.

There is no question about singing the national anthem at an international meet.

The question is more why do it (at all) for domestic games.

I feel the world would be a much better place without any flags. Most of the time flags and trumpets bring out the worst in man.

Hy Hit_Ny,
They do the same in Ireland. I can  remember them playing the Nat Anthem at the end of a movie, The last song at a wedding dance and most locals bands would do the same. On ocassional after at closing time in a pub where the odd fight nearly started when somebody was a bit drunk to stand and an as* ho&e was pissed off.
What a world. All over a piece of music.

'A wise traveler never despises his own country.'

And as someone living in a different country, I subscribe to this position:

"Sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I'm not ashamed of that, never have been and never will be."

We Live In A Country That Even Allows Flag Burning Of Own Country.

I guess It Is Legal in Other Countries Too since I See Allot of American Flags Being burnt On CNN & Fox News Even If We Do Hand out More Aid than Other Countries Grouped Together.

'Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue Charted At 25 In 2002

Listening to: 'Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)' from 'Unleashed' by 'Toby Keith' on Media Center 11

Lyrics:

American girls and American guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recongnize
When we see Old Glory flying there's alot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our head

My daddy served in the Army when he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister, and me
To grow up and live happy in the land of the free
Now this nation that I love has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in from somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly through our big, black eye
Man,we lite up your world like the 4th of July

Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly and its gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you courtesy of the red, white, and blue

Justice will be served and the battle will rage
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage
You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A
Cause we'll put a boot in your ass it's the American way

Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly and its gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell
And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you courtesy of the red, white, and blue

Ohhh
Of the red, white, and blue
Ohhh
