The drives configured under "configure remote and fixed drives for detection" are busted again. The drive shows up under drives and devices but clicking on it does nothing and right clicking on it crashes MC.

Almost...

If either or both the iPod or Jump Drive are attached when MC starts, then there's no problem.

If the iPod is connected then I add the jump drive while MC is running, the jump drive isn't recognized and crashes mc if I right click on the drives and devices entry.

If the jump drive is already connected and I add the iPod, the Aw flashes but the iPod doesn't appear in the Handhelds AW or the tree.

I cannot replicate this. It may be a hardware issue. Anyone else seeing anything like this?

Try running MC and disconnect and reconnect the Jump Drive alone and see what happens. Do you have the Jump Drive defined in 'Remote and Fixed Drives' ? If so, how is it defined (the path)?

The jump drive is drive "e" and is defined in the remote and fixed drives dialog as "e:\music"

I'll run the other tests later tonight. I didn't do a "reset" now that I think about it so I'll try that as well.

Sorry Steve. I've tried everything but still no go.

With MC not running, I can plug and unplug both the iPod and Jump drive in any combination all day and Windows and other apps see them just fine.

With both devices plugged in when I start MC, they work as long as I don't unplug either and try to plug it back in.

In all other cases, the first device plugged in works and the second one doesn't.

The iPod is firewire conencted and the jump drive is usb 2.0. I've tried attaching the iPod via USB and the jump drive via a USB 1.1 hub with no luck. Removing all other USB devices doesn't help either.

Two other semi-related quirks... If I stop and unplug the iPod, it doesn't disappear from the tree. If I plug in the jump drive, it doesn't show up in the tree until I collapse and re-expand it.

Another little tidbit... The conflict happens regardless of the type of "other device". usb jump drive, usb hard drive, network drive, etc. All conflict with iPod.

Does your Jump Drive appear in MC without being defined under ' "configure remote and fixed drives for detection" ? If so, try not using that option.

Also, tonight's build (220) should improve this situation.

Sorry Steve, 220 is no help. Whichever device is connected first still wins.

And no, the jump drive doesn't appear without putting it in "configure remote..."

When 221 is avaiable, please get it, disconnect all your devices and then go to Tools->Options->Handheld and click on the button marked 'RESET'. Close MC. Then

1) Connect your Jump Drive

2) Start MC

3) Go to Tools->Options->Handheld and click on 'Configure remote and fixed drives'. Browse to your Jump Drive and assign it a name

4) Click on it in MC.

5) Disconnect and reconnect the Jump Drive and make sure MC recognizes the connection and disconnection.

6) If all is well, attach the iPod and test from there.

Sorry Steve,

Even with 223 whichever device is plugged in first still wins.

If the jump drive is already there when I plug in the iPod, the AW flashes but the iPod never shows up in the tree.

If the iPod is already plugged in when I plug in the jump drive, the AW doesn't flash and the jump drive doesn't show up in the tree until I collapse and expand it. If I then click on it, it selects for a second then jumps back to whatever was selected in the tree previously.

Installed 223 and did a reset.
Closed MC.

1) Connect your Jump Drive
No problem

2) Start MC
No problem

3) Go to Tools->Options->Handheld and click on 'Configure remote and fixed drives'. Browse to your Jump Drive and assign it a name
No problem. f:\music

4) Click on it in MC.
No problem. showed existing tracks.

5) Disconnect and reconnect the Jump Drive and make sure MC recognizes the connection and disconnection.
Kind of no problem. MC recognized the remove and removed the tree entry without intervention. When reinserting it the AW never flashed to HANDHELD and I had to collapse and re-expand the tree to see it. It was functional every time however.

6) If all is well, attach the iPod and test from there.
Attached iPod, AW flashed, iPod didn't show up in tree even after a collapse and re-expand, clicking on handheld in the AW took me to the jump drive.

Please retest with 11.0.227 when it becomes available as the detection of devices has been substantially changed and may affect your results.

Yep, everything seems to work if MC is started with both devices already attached.

Just fyi...

I have a work laptop that has a fresh XP Pro install on it so I installed 230 on it and did a few tests. At first, it had the same problems as my 2000 machine. For instance, when I plugged in the jump drive the first time, MC would add it to the tree but I couldn't select it. Same with the iPod. Once I did a reset or two and restarted MC they both worked fine together. My only point is that you may be able to reproduce this on an XP machine if you can do fresh MC installs.
