Sonos connect to MC UPNP server?
« on: July 25, 2005, 10:48:44 am »

Looking to see if anyone has any thoughts on Sonos connecting to MC via UPNP.  Sonos is able to connect to Rhapsodys UPNP service so I have to imagine that it is technically possible.  I have all my playlists, smartlists, etc. in MC and I'd love to be able to access them.

I just deployed Sonos for whole house audio to five zones and its AMAZING.  Whole thing took less than 30 minutes to configure.

I think the Sonos player is hard coded right now to look just for the Rhapsody service.  I know for a fact it connects using UPNP.  I'm trying to talk to the Sonos folks about any plans they have for generic UPNP server support.  Sonos already uses UPNP everywhere else so I have to assume generic server support is on their roadmap.

It is an amazing device, pricey, but worth it if you house isn't pre-wired.  Their proprietary wireless network is rock solid and perfectly syncs audio among the zones.  For me Sonus+MC will be the KILLER app.
