Is there any way for MC to playback a DTS audio CD through my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro?  Intervideo WinDVD 5 will playback DTS audio CD's but MC will not (just get "hash" sound).  (I'm only using the L and R analog speaker outs for now).

I searched the forums and found a lot of info, but most oriented to using an outboard DTS decoder (which I may try at some time in the future).

Well, there's no way around it, you've got to have a DTS decoder somewhere as with any "encoded" stream.  There is no DTS decoder built in to MC, so you have to spit it out to a decoder somewhere else.

I have my DTS CDs ripped and then send the stream (ASIO) to a DTS decoder (Proceed AVP) then on to the amps, yadda, yadda, yadda...

My sound card (RME) has a  "non audio" setting on the driver that I select that sends the stream out a certain way so as the AVP sees it simply as a DTS bitstream.

Seems like I read about a way to rip your DTS CDs and convert them to just 2-channel WAV with a Demuxer of some sort, but I can't remember....maybe I'm dreaming too....

Well WinDVD 5 plays the DTS audio CD fine thru the Audigy 2 on the PC, so why can't MC?  MC is a front end for many other codecs (ie, Real, Windows Media, DVD's, etc), right? So it seems MC would use the codec that WinDVD uses.

MC can use other playback engines when needed, but plays most formats natively.

Are you just ripping them to uncompressed WAV?  Anything special you need to do to get them to play back or does ASIO pretty much take care of it?  What sampling rate are you upconverting them to (if any?)

Well, I've got both uncompressed WAV and APE rips of DTS sources (Brubeck, Moody Blues, Steely Dan, etc.).  My config has changed over the months, but essentially what I mentioned before is somewhat accurate.

I'm doing no upsampling, just using the "source" selections, the MC DSP is OFF.

This AM, I did a quick "start-to-finish" to make sure I was accurate.  One thing has changed which I didn't notice before.  Now the RME driver auto-detects the discrete bitstream and I don't have to manually select "non-audio" on the driver setup.  However, between songs, I still get that "static" as it "figures out" the signal.  Manually choosing "non-audio" on the driver fixes that, so it's not totally automatic.

So whether I have a APE or WAV DTS source, playing via ASIO, it goes out as a discrete bitstream to the AVP which then plays and displays the DTS-only options (Music, Film or THX) available.  The AVP shuts off all other surround mode settings and options when it detects a DTS or DD discrete bitstream.
