OT - Lesson of the day.... Never lie to your mum!!!
« on: April 02, 2005, 01:24:06 am »

I could never work how mine always seemed to know when I was being economical with the truth, now I'm a grandad and I've learned how, and my reward is to see the same bewilderment in my children when they get rumbled...

forget about all this media center stuff for thirty seconds or so, read on and enjoy. :)

NEVER LIE TO OUR MOTHER!

Brian Hester invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but keep noticing how beautiful Brian's room mate, Stephanie, was. Mrs. Hester had long been suspicious of a relationship between Brian and
Stephanie, and this had only made her curious. Over the course of the evening, while watching the two react, Mrs. Hester started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Stephanie, than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Stephanie and I are just room mates."

About a week later, Stephanie came to Brian saying, "Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?"  Brian  said, "Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure."  So he sat down and wrote:

Dear Mother:
I'm not saying that you "did" take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying that you "did not" take the gravy ladle, but the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.
Love, Brian

Several days later, Brian received a letter from his mother that read:

Dear Son:
I'm not saying that you "do" sleep with Stephanie, and I'm not saying that you "do not" sleep with Stephanie. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now..

Love, Mom

Nice!  ;D I think I can still see straight through my children, but they are only eight and nine. Soon they will outsmart me. But luckily I've got a lie detector in the house - mrs. Mastiff. I can't even get away with anything with her...unless I really, really try. And then only small, white lies ("yes, I vacuumed earlier today - the dog must have shedded a lot today").

Yes. But I think parents tend to focus on the minor issues and simply deny the big ones. Its like as we get older and more comfortable we seem to assume those issues arent a problem any more, since theyre so easy for us, we dealt with them long ago.

I know when i was 14 the adults around werent even beginning to address the real issues, and looking back on it we were doing some risky stuff. It was like sneaking past the sleeping dragon. They freaked out about such minor things, and did nothing about the stuff that could have led to serious doodoo.

I'm sure people differ though, not all teens are the same, nor are all parents!

Well, I'm planning to watch my daughter with a baseball bat! I have already thrown out two boys who wanted to play something called "kiss, pat or hug" with her (they were 8 and 9) and told them not to come back in a few weeks... And as for other dangers, I have full control over their netsurfing and gaming. That should cover it for 8 and 9 year old kids for now...

Yup, now that my daughter is a parent she actually thanked me for all the times I told her "No"  or caught her out in a lie. Now she and her hubby are making rules and planning on how to deal with issues that will come up .  Mind you, Baby Gabe is only 5 months old - I can't wait until he's two!!!!
