I work for W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. (makers of Gore-Tex (R) Fabric) in the RF and Microwave products division.  I run a testing lab for Gore.  It's my job to destroy what we make.  I analyze new designs and test our products for survival in their end use environment.  Pretty neat actually, I work on some of the latest in telecommunications, space, and military technologies.

I'm doing research on hardware architecture for future computing machines in a serious
scientific lab.

I started by examining the inner wiring of my own brain to get some inspiration,
but I think I lost a few parts while trying to re-assemble it   :-/

That's very bad.  Never continue on if you end up with parts.  A very good friend of mine did a total rebuild on his engine.  This would've been about 20-25 years ago, and as I recall it was a Nova.  When he was all done, he had one little, round part left.  Oh, well, not to worry--he called up a friend and they went cruisin'.  Except while sitting at a stoplight--POOF, flames came shooting our from under the hood.  They jumped out, and got to watch the whole car burn.  The fire department was rolling laughing when they got the whole story--turns out that little round piece was supposed to secure the gasline to the carburetor.

True story.

I am a painter-decorator-inside home  designer .
Inside home designer sounds a lot like a very special thing.
But in fact it is just to make plans when people do not want to take an architect. Most of the case it means, broking, moving some walls, making windows bigger ;not changing all the place.
The second task is  when an architect involved to check if he belongs to the kind who fully realise that people will live  in the place.
Kitchen is the main problem. They do not realise that you have to open a fridge and do think there is 25 centimeters large washing-machine......

I did 37 years of computers (yes they had tubes then), now I just see what the younger generation is up to.  must be fun to release a program every other day.  In the good old days we had to test our code before we released it.  must be nice to have so many testers for FREE.

Yeah, but you didn't sell it for $25.  It's a new marketing environment.  Where did you work?  IBM?  HP?

I have another engine story.   It's hard to tell.

I had a friend (we were around 25 years old, both of us).  He went rock climbing in the Sierras.  On Sunday night, another friend called looking for his girl friend.  I said, "I don't know where she is.  Why?".

"Peter is dead.  There was a rock slide.  He's gone."

A couple days later, I called his parents, said I was sorry, asked if they would let me rebuild the engine he had pulled out of his VW and left under canvas at a fraternity house near the University of California Berkeley.  I asked if his girl friend could have it.  They said, "sure".

I was a carpenter, but I thought, "maybe I can do it".
It worked.  It took around 6 months of me reading "The Complete Idiot's Guide to the VW" and a lot of four letter ****'s, but it ran.

Part-time carpenter. Full time jackass.

I had a '65 Chevy Impala SS years ago. An old roommate said he could 'adjust' the timing by ear. Sure could, once the flames subsided. If he even looked at that thing after that I gave him the, 'Don't you even think about it ' stare..

Good thing the garden hose was still connected in early fall. Otherwise I might have had car-b-que.

I had a 65 Impala two door with a 327 engine.  It cost $2525 new.  Great car!
