Media Center 11.0.244 Beta Available
« on: April 19, 2005, 05:38:09 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your bug reports, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't fully support it.  If you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

For a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
[please get newer build]

Please post bugs you're sure about here.  Anything else and especially anything that requires an answer should be posted in a new thread with a subject like "MC11 problem with ..." or "MC11 question about ....".    Feature requests should be postponed until we've finished 11.0.  Thanks.  -- JimH

Recent Changes
Encoder settings may need to be re-set:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;topic=26527.0

11.0.244 (4/19/05)

1. Changed: Options dialog loads pages on demand instead of all at once for faster access.
2. Changed: Portables now return MediaType information.
3. Fixed: Media Scheduler could use the wrong name in some cases.
4. Fixed: Media Scheduler used wrong registry paths for settings.
5. Fixed: Media Scheduler "TV channels" list was empty for TV recording.
6. Changed: Media Scheduler no longer needs an output file path for TV recording. Now daily recordings of soap opera would not overwrite each other.
7. Fixed: "Enable Task Scheduler" would be checked on Media Scheduler startup even if it was unchecked previously.
8. Fixed: Theater View page up / page down would not always work as expected.
9. Changed: The switch from Theater View to fullscreen looks smoother.
10. Changed: Theater View's picture-in-picture uses a black background when no display is loaded. (instead of the skins color)
11. Changed: Control bars will no longer appear on Theater View's picture-in-picture.
12. NEW: Included new skin: Aruba. (note: still in development)
13. Fixed: The right edge of some skin items would not draw properly when being shrunk.

11.0.243 (4/18/05)

1. Fixed: Non-details style lists would not draw properly. (introduced in 242)

11.0.242 (4/18/05)

1. Fixed: Filename truncation and rename for long filenames with iPod.
2. Fixed: Auto sync for portables could mistakenly delete files on the device.
3. Changed: Auto-sync will occur as soon as MC starts if it is enabled.
4. Changed: MC will handle individualization of multiple iPods. In order to do this, reset your devices and say 'No' to
detection of iPod as a device. Then use the 'Configure remote and fixed drives' option to assign a name to each
iPod. This name will save the individual settings for each iPod.
5. Fixed: Media Center could clear file associations when deselecting an association for files MC was not associated with. (introduced two builds ago)
6. NEW: Media Mode switches are now integrated into the MC navigation history.
7. Fixed: Tools > Advanced Tools > Windows Media Manager > Help could crash Media Center.
8. Fixed: Windows "smooth scrolling" (on by default with XP) would cause MC's lists to work slowly and look poor during scrolls.
9. NEW: DVD properties has added option to choose audio/video decoder filters. This is still being developed so it may not always work.
10. Changed: Added logging to file associations engine to help troubleshoot   error dialog some users are seeing.

4. Fixed: Analyzing files time lag problem for Portables.
5. Fixed: With Media Server running, Media Center could not be closed.
6. Fixed: MP3 encoder would not work properly for handhelds.

11.0.240 (4/14/05)

1. Fixed: Cancelling secure ripping process sometimes caused application crash.

3. Fixed: Shell extension's "Replace & Play" would not work properly in some cases.
4. Fixed: File assocation for playlists could not be unselected in some cases.

7. Fixed: File conversion when transferring to Portables.
8. Changed: Number of plays when new files tranferred to Portables will always be 0.
9. Fixed: After each CD track finished ripping, application window would come to the foreground.

2. Changed: Portables now return MediaType information.

I like that. I'm wondering, why my iPod photo would need to recognize something else than audio files  ::)
Keep working, keep working, I think we see what's coming  :)

Disclaimer: Please wait a build if Nomad support is important to you, as there were handheld changes made today that have yet to be done for Nomads.

I haven't logged these for a while, but they are still an issue in this release.

VIEW SCHEME USING AN EXPRESSION
Semicolon Delimited Library Fields are not being handled correctly when used in a View Scheme Expression.

I have created a Library Field (List, semicolon delimited) called Artists.  I have created the following expression in a view scheme.

If(IsEqual([Artists],, 1), AlbumArtist(), [Artists])

This is outputting  "artist1;artist2", so the [Artists] librbary field isn't being treated as a list.

So I get something like:

(multiple artists)
Abba
ACDC
Sting
Tommy;James Morrison
Vince Jones

Instead of;
(multiple artists)
Abba
ACDC
James Morrison
Sting
Tommy
Vince Jones

Note:  Putting "Artists" in the view without using an expression works fine, it's just when the result is returned via the expression method that it doesn't work.

THEATER VIEW

When in Playing Now view and you press "Toggle Zone" the cover art the bottom part of the screen updates, but the track listing doesn'tm so you end up with the cover art for one album and the track listing for another!  You have to press "Playing Now" to get the track list to update.  Both should update together so everything matches.

I also found that some of the visualizations I have tried (like the spectrum Analyzer ones) don't seem to update with a toggle zone either.

Also could I suggest that the green "Play" symbol that shows the current track should change to a "Paused" or "Stopped" symbol depending on the current state.  Having a green "Play" symbol when the track is paused or stopeed is a bit confusing for users.

Cheers

Upgraded from 234 to 244 used the auto (easy install) the installation complete window has run installed program checked.  Which it did fine.    The Installation complete window does not close.  and will not allow the finish button to be clicked.

Just a side note. I have not been using Media Center 11 regularly. But it seems to be slower than version 10.  when doing a search the loading panes is sometimes painful.  Maybe It's time to upgrade the hardware again to to keep up with all the loops that have been added.

UPDATE:  when closing Media center get the following:

AppName: media center.exe    AppVer: 11.0.234.0    ModName: media center.exe
ModVer: 11.0.234.0    Offset: 000381e7

Note from Matt on my drag and drop post:
Quote
Try switching skins.  The line is more obvious with some skins than with others.

I have tried other skins and other effects, but there is no difference.
As stated before: with the same skin and effect (negative) I have a good result on my laptop and a bad results on my PC.
On my PC you can see a '+' next to the mousepointer. The line only appears for a split second once the drop is made.

On my laptop a have a clear line during the dragging on the grid to indicate where it will be dropped.

I have tried to make screenshots but not al detail are stored.

Could different PC settings cause this??

With MC10 I had no problems.

When i drop a song in playing now (no difference between a pane/view or action window) and the current song being played is not visible, MC scrolls in such a way the the current song will be visible just after the drop is made.
Doing that in some cases I can not check if my drop was correct?

Is that a bug, or is it by design?

Hi, good job on MC 11. I think there is a bug, as I have DVD movies on network drive that  the MC sees (in 'my computer' view only) but refuses to play saying that the volume can not be found.

while importing on a localized (with language file) MC11 does not search for folders
Eigene Dateien (My Files/Documents)
Eigene Musik (My music)
Eigene Videos (My videos)
Eigene Bilder (my pictures)

it searches for the english folder names. even though the strings have been translated correctly in the langauge.txt

please fix this !  :-[

I tried syncing a playlist to my handheld (recognized as a removable drive). When I clicked on the Transfer button under Sync Handheld I got an application error. Unfortunately, no info about the error was displayed.

I tried the same procedure again and the same thing happened. Actually, I set MC to auto-sync, so as soon as MC started up it scanned my device and then died.

Also, I noticed that when MC was scanning my portable device (it's 20G and 99.9% full) MC used 100% available CPU. I don't know what exactly it's doing at this point, but that seems excessive. Hmm, I did this again and MC only used about 25% CPU, I don't know why it used 100% before.

Qythyx,

What device?  Did you do anything to configure it (e.g. use the Configure Remote or Fixed drives option)?

With 244, MC started deleting all files on my iPod on first auto-sync again. Back to 243 now...

IOth,

Thanks. Got it. In 244 if you had rated files on the iPod, they probably were going to get resent on autosync. It is fixed in 245.

Have just downloaded and installed in parallel to MC10

During the install process I recieved an error message 'the parameter is incorrect' (no other information)
I believe it was something to do with the file associations.

When I go to tools options, I cannot change any of the options without getting the same message.

P.S. Is it possible within the install routine to have a button that will automatically deselect image filetypes, leaving audio filetypes selected? It is a real pain trying to find jpg etc. down the ist and photoshop does not handle file associations outside of it's own install procedure!!!

Thanks

I get an unexpected behaviour using this thumbnail view settings:

I customized thumbnail view using 64x64 for Thumbnail size.
Thumbnail spacing: 64x64.

Now left click on each file as if selecting them (don't double click).

It keeps on highlighting the last hightlighted thumbnail, and most of the selection frame is not drawn completely (half of it, sometimes upper half, sometimes lower half)

Just wanted to let you know :)

Cheers for this great product. My third year using it!

1. VCD's - Use screen grab for thumbnail doesn't work

2. Video thumbnails from MC 10 are not transferred to MC 11 program directory. If I uninstall 10 - i will lose all these thumbnails

3. VCD's made from more than one mpg - MC only plays/recognises the first file!

4. Find and replace - there is no option to apply this to cover art/image.
