Roku HD1000/MC11 UPnP
« on: April 18, 2005, 02:06:56 pm »

Has anyone successfully gotten a Roku HD1000 (Photobridge) to run off the UPnP server from a MC11 build?  My first attempts have failed with the latest beta Roku firmware (2.0.15), but I'm not sure if I have a firewall/service/user issue.  Running MC11 on WinXP SP2, so its possible that its being blocked somehow...

I haven't seen one of these yet. Can you post the log here?

Sure, but I haven't had an opportunity to play with it of late.  Soon as I can I'll post it here.  Sorry for the delay.

Part of the problem is that since the firmware on the Roku HD1000 is beta, there's little documentation on what I need to do with the Roku to have it 'discover' the UPnP server.  I'd suspect that I'd just have to start the server and go to the home screen and it should show up like my file shares, but I don't know for sure.

The other part of the problem is not knowing if any particular ports need to be open through my software firewall.  Any suggestions in this area would help me out as well.  Last time I tried this (a couple weekends ago), I don't remember seeing anything on the UPnP server console, so I'm suspecting the firewall intercepted it.  But I'll make a point of trying it out with the latest MC build and letting you know as soon as I can.

thx

You'll need to try 2 different startup orders: start the roku first and then the UPnP Server. Or start the UPnP server first, and then the Roku.

There is a firewall between the Roku and the server? Or does the firewall protect the LAN (and both the device and server) from the internetl. If the latter, you won't have to change the firewall. If the former, there's a bit of work to be done. Let me know which.

Hrm, I gave it a try and no luck.  Here's what I did.

First, Roku released firmware 2.0.16 with some UPnP support for Listen (the mp3 player component).  So I updated the firmware and then started MC UPnP server.  Set it to expect a Roku Soundbridge (the HD1000 is a Photobridge, first difference).  The Roku managed to find the Media Center UPnP server, but then proceeded to tell me it couldn't find any media that it recognized.

Here's my server console (not sure what I should enable in the debug log so that we get only what we need):

Quote
04/24/05 02:49:43 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.20 starting...
04/24/05 02:49:44 - Server running on address 192.168.1.101, port 2904
04/24/05 02:49:44 - Running
04/24/05 02:49:48 - Received request for device description
04/24/05 02:49:49 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 0
04/24/05 02:49:49 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 1
04/24/05 02:49:52 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 4
04/24/05 02:49:53 - Browse BrowseDirectChildren 5

Every now and then I get this:

Quote
04/24/05 02:58:35 - SSDP Server requested type not found: ssdp:all
04/24/05 02:58:36 - SSDP Server requested type not found: ssdp:all
04/24/05 02:58:37 - SSDP Server requested type not found: ssdp:all

But I'm not sure if that's coming from the Roku or something else lurking on my network (my router has some UPnP settings, it could be sniffing around for stuff).

Any suggestions?  I did go through the combo of starting one before the other and I get the same results.  Like I mentioned, if you have suggested debug topics to enable, I can try again and send the detailed log.

thx

Do you have access to a network sniffer?

It sounds like Roku is using a different UPnP implementation, so try the other player settings, see if one of those work.
