Crashes with AutoSync in new 246-247 builds
« on: April 22, 2005, 05:42:19 pm »

I have been getting errors every time I start MC with my handheld (Karma) running.  I have autosync running.
Sadly I have never gotten the sync with file conversion to work completely to my Karma.
Here is the message:
6:37:54 PM: Database: MEDIAFILE_IO_LOAD::Load: Loading: C:\Documents and Settings\Alex Brown\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Library\field (filename).jmd
6:37:54 PM: Database: MEDIAFILE_IO_LOAD::Load: Finish (0 ms)

Also, is there any chance you could add a feature to transfer tracks until the device is full?  My dream is a random set of tracks until the device is full.  I know I can use a playlist, but this does not appear to work well with the file conversion turned on.

Thanks!

The only way to get it to do something is to plug it in after I start MC wait for an error and then plug it in a second time.
Then it crashes and says device disconnected even though it is still connected and on.

Alex,

We do not have a Karma here, so I tested with the nearest device we have. With it, I successfully auto synched a batch of mp3 files with conversion on without problems. I am running XP in this test and converting 160kbps to 96 kbps mp3.  Not sure what your issue is. I will see if we can get a Karma so I can further narrow down this problem. Do you have multiple devices connected? Have you tried resetting the detected devices (in Tools->Options->Handheld) and starting over with conversion disabled?

Steve,
I updated to the 248 build and I have the same issue.  It has a MS Visual C++ Error and it crashes.  Though only if I have the Karma plugged in when I start MC.  If I start it while MC is running with the 248 Build I get "An invalid argument was encountered".  I too have XP SP2.  I do have card readers in my computer but they are "disabled" in MC.
I did as per your request try to reset the devices.  This appeared to have no effect.  I do not have any plugins.

Any chance you guys could add more handheld logging?

Here is the "Invalid arument log", not very useful:

10:15:38 PM: General: CMCPlayerApp::InitInstance: Version: JRiver Media Center 11.0.248 (registered)

10:16:10 PM: Handheld: CHHManager::Initialize: Initializing handheld 'Rio Karma'
10:16:12 PM: Handheld: CHHManager::Initialize: Finish (2323 ms)

Here is the crash log:
10:17:14 PM: General: CMCPlayerApp::InitInstance: Updating after database load
10:17:15 PM: General: CompactMemory: Compact Time (ms): 0
10:17:15 PM: General: CMCPlayerApp::InitInstance: Updating and showing UI

10:17:20 PM: Handheld: CHHManager::Initialize: Start

10:17:29 PM: General: CompactMemory: Compact Time (ms): 0
10:17:29 PM: General: CompactMemory: Compact Time (ms): 0

It is repeatable as it happens every single time.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Alex,

Does your Karma work without problems in Windows Media Player?  What firmware is on the Karma? 1.68?

Keep auto sync off for now.

I will try windows media player.  The Karma has the 1.68 firmware.  Which is the newerst one.
I know before the syncing of individual files worked well.

I will try tonight to see how the syncing in WMP goes.

Any chance we could see the transfer until full option for the syncing?

I have included some more logging in tonight's build which may shed some light on this (along with the WMP test).

This should be fine. If it is not working, the option you suggest will not work either so I suggest we focus on trying to figure out the issues you are having with the Karma. At this time we won't add the feature you are requesting. Sorry.  In regards to further Karma testing, keep it simple. No autosync. Simply drag and drop a few tracks without conversion and see if it succeeds.

Thanks,

Steve, I have no idea what you did but after 10 versions it appears to be working (249)!!  At least so far.
Will keep you posted.  But make sure you know what was changed  ;)

Thanks!
