MC11 Lib Server Question...
« on: April 23, 2005, 11:58:30 am »

Can anyone tell me how the client tag changes are synchronised with the server?

I have a batch file that closes the client MC, pauses 60 seconds (to allow the server library to update??), then copies the server database files to the client PC and reopens the client connected to the server

I want the days play data to be synchronized with the server library before I copy it - This allows me a local library I can use to rip, burn and ipod with

All advice / clues gratefully received - Thanks

If I understand correctly marketability likes to know how fast the playcount information is updated on the server after a client has played a track.

I guess it's instant. I guess the server counts it, because the clients are read only.

But if the clients are read only - then whats the point of the library server.

It would require significant work.  We'd have to implement file and record locking.  We may do it some day.

Thanks guys - so just to confirm...

... play count data is updated back to the server library in real time

but the client libraries are "read-only"

one last question... do ratings changes made on the client also update the server library in real-time?

Thanks for the input - the record locking issue is a big task, I can see that

It even causes issues in the Lib Server's current incarnation - if you run a task on the server library, eg. convert format, if a client PC tries to play a track which is being converted (even if "don't update library / dont delete original" is selected for the conversion) The server library generates an error message. If you dont click OK on the error message, the conversion continues but the client libraries can no longer connect

Just answered my rating question - it doesn't update!

any chance this could be implemented in MC11 using the same methodology as play counts? its definately the most frequently used field in my normal listening experience.

Maybe because I use Netremote?
anyone else have any thoughts on this?

No changes will be made until after release.
