Dragging things
« on: May 03, 2005, 06:01:44 am »

For a while I've noticed that when I drag things in the left hand pane, the icon for whatever's being dragged is offset a long way from the pointer (about 5.5 list items above the item being dragged).  Just now I've tried dragging the items in a playlist of pictures into the order I want and they don't always go in the position shown by the icon.  Audio playlists are fine!  Any idea what's going on?

Ian G,

do you see a line (between the songs) indicating where the song is going to be dropped?

I do not!!!  Not in the left pane nor in the main views!!

I am very curious to know.

Yes - and when I'm working with songs it works, i.e. that's where it gets dropped .  When I'm working with images it's a different story though  ?

I am not working with images so I can not check at this moment.
Just to be clear:
when you are dragging an image you do not see the 'dropping line' and with a song you do?

Peter
PS (if I find the time I will do a check with some images)

Marko,
I will try later at my Home PC with Aruba skin (using Pixos in Negative mode now).
Up till now all the skins gave the same effect (independent of the mode)!?

On my laptop at work the line is visible!! So it is something with my home pc configuration.

With MC10 i did not have this problem.

I'll get back later.

Sorry, I wasn't clear - I always see the 'dropping line' but that's not where images get dropped.

Marko

I get the same problem with all the skins, though Blue Steel is noticeably worse than the others, at least on my laptop - I haven't tried my home pc yet.  The left hand pane is the one that holds the various trees - playlists, drives & devices etc.

One thing I've just noticed, I use my laptop with an external monitor as well as the built in screen - when I put MC on the built in screen the problem with the icon being in the wrong place goes away!  I still can't order image playlists properly though, in fact only music playlists work as they should.

There is no line in thumbnail views -- only details view.

Try turning off skin effects.  There could be some multi-monitor glitch (negative coordinates?) but we can't reproduce it here.  We need more details.  A screen-shot would help.

Matt

No skin effects, and I'm working with the detail view (but then I usualy see the line).  I've just noticed that if I drag a file into a playlist from Explorer I don't see the line until I let go of the mouse button.  I've also tried going back to the oldest version of MC I could find, 11.0.200, and it works perfectly.

I'll try and get some screen shots when I'm at home.

I managed to get a screen shot:

Can anyone tell me how to put this image into a reply??

It is a bmp image.

This is the screenshot made at my home PC:

As you can see there is small box with a tail on the right, but no drop line.
This screenshot is made while dragging a song within Playing Now.

On the moment i drop the song the line pops up for a split second. Just as Ian G described in his post:

I really hope this helps. Please let me know.

In addition to my previous post:

I have 2 views, both holding Playing now. When I drag a song from view 1 to view 2 the cursor changes in an arrow with a "+" once dragging over the target view.
There is no drop line but also no 'box with a tail on the right'.
When the drop is made in this situation, I sometimes see the drop line for a split second, but not always (??).

And another situation that might help:

Please take a good look at the following picture:

I am dragging the playlist called 'preuvenemint'.
My cursor (which is not caught by Print Screen) is just left of 'Top Hits'.
The 'playlist-to-be-dropped' is floating 7 playlists higher.

I do not know if this is related to the other posts, but you never know.

Keep in mind that two things are drawn: an image of what is being dragged and also a destination drop line.

It looks like the drag image is in the wrong place sometimes.  We can't reproduce this problem, but made some changes that could affect it.

Please try tonight's build and let us know what you find. Thanks.

Any update on this problem - it's all gone quiet?
