Thumbnails Problem
« on: May 03, 2005, 02:44:35 pm »

Hi there,

I bought a new computer and transferred all my library files (music, pictures, videos) to the new PC. I used the same drive letter and folder as on th old PC (which is my backup system now) and also transfered the MC library itself.

All works fine, however, a huge amount of thumbnails of videos is not showing up, which it still does on the old PC. Most of the files are some from my digital camera, so it's a "normal" supported format. I can watch them without any problems, but I will never see a thumbnail. As said, some show up, most don't and I have no clue what to do. (I tried to solve the problem through "Import Media/Build missing thumbnails" but that didn't help at all.)

Thanks in advance,

Mighty A-MAN

This is probably because the location where MC stores it's thumbnails was recently changed from inside the Library to your /Documents and Settings/[username]/Application Data/J River/ folder (I think that's where it is, I'm on a Mac now so I can't check) and you didn't move those files to the new computer too.

The problem is that when you tell MC to rebuild the Thumbnails, it skips those because the Library database says that you already have the thumbnails built for those files (which you do, just on the old machine).

I would probably just erase all your thumbnails (Options > Tree & View > Thumbnails) and then do a Build Missing Thumbnails to recreate them all.  If you have a big library, it'll take a while but should work.

Hi Glynor,

Thanks for your message, which sounds pretty logic!    ;)

While I also moved all the CD covers and secure rip protocols, I did not think about the thumbnail folder.

I'll try that way and assume it will help. Otherwise I will shout again.

Thanks,

Oh, yes, it works!

I just deleted the thumbnails and then opened the different categories inside MC (video, pictures) and the thumbnails will be build and show up immediately as in the past.

Thanks again,
