Will the Hauppauge PVR500 work?
« on: May 20, 2005, 12:15:50 pm »

I'm considering using a PVR500, but do they work in MC?

Thanks in advance!

I have not tested PVR500. That is why it is not on the list of supported devices. If I have to guess, I would say it probably would not work, until I added code for it. For the very least, since this device has two tuners, and MC does not support duel/multiple tuners. Will it work if you don't care about the second tuner? Someone should just try it (I will do it sometime in the future).

OK, then I'll wait until somebody (perhaps you) tries it. Thanks!

Works.

Just one tuner naturally (multiple tuner support would be nice). MC seems to have trouble with scanning channels (manually adding them works), but I've seen that with other cards too.

I have followed Mastiff's articles on building HTPC and bought Happauge PVR500 MCE for another PC. I moved the TV card to the HTPC and managed to receive beautiful TV-pictures by choosing antenna (not cable). But, the sound is missing. There is a message that says that I need to set up an audio cable from the TV-card to the sound card. I use Audigy2ZS. But I can't figure out how since there is no audio output contact from the TV-card.

Found some advice in another posting an unchecked "audio cable" alternative in Options. Selected Direct sound and Whow. Hauppauge PVR500 MCR works. I have so far only tried one of the two tv-tuners

I've just innstalled the PVR-500 and it works fine.

Is there any plans on supporting multiple tuners in the near future?

Maybe in Version 12. Not guaranteed though  ;)

OK. Is there any release date set for v.12? Have found a few other things with this card that I wonder about:

1. In the Options menu I found a checkbox for Invers Telecine. This seems to improve the picture on some channels. Problem is that when I close MC and turn it on agian, the setting is gone. It does not seem to be able to store this setting. Is there anywhere else I can set this (and make it stay)? Is it a registry setting?

2. Another problem I found was that I'm not able to watch a DVD (with Zoomplayer) at the same time record a TV program (set with the timer). I get a error message saying: 'Error: Failed to render video stream. Possible cause: The video capture driver is in use...Code:0x8000ffff'.

Is this not possible??!?

No release date yet. We are still working on ver 11.1.

I do not recognize this option. It must be on the property pages of the driver filters. Generally we can not do much about such custom options.

It seems that ZoomPlayer and MC try to use the same resource that can not be shared. This could be video display resource, or video decoder. Try changing what decoder zoomplayer uses.

I now found out that the recording works fine as long as I use Zoomplayer on the PC screen, i.e. same display as the MC recording window pops up in. The error message comes when I watch a film on the projector. Is there any way around this?

This sounds like a video driver limitation. I have no idea what to do about it.

So this MCE of Happauge 500 will work in XP? I'm just wondering since it says "Windows Media Center Edition required" on several computer stores.
Any news on the dual tuner support in MC 12 by the way?

That is still a long way away. No hope of getting it in MC12. Sorry.
