MC11 install Runtime Error!
« on: May 14, 2005, 02:09:33 am »

Just downloaded MC11 (MediaCenter110266.exe)

When trying to run the .exe, at the end of the extract-progress bar I get a pop-up
window saying:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program: C:\DOCUME~1\UserName\LOCALS~1\Temp\RarSFX1\InstallWizard.exe

abnormal program termination

---------------------------------------------------------------------

How to solve this problem?

Thank you.

This is what I did to solve it. I don't know if it will help you if you don't have the previous version.

Thanks.

Actually I donot have a previous MC11 installed on my pc. Only the latest MC10.
Did a search on "uninstall MC10", but cannot find anything saying that i first
need to uninstall MC10 b4 installing MC11...

If it wud be necessary, I guess MC11 should handle the uninstall of MC10 during
the installation-procedure... ?

Until I actually uninstalled MC10 (quite a few builds of MC11 ago now!) the MC11 install was telling me every time that it had found MC10 and asked me if I wanted to uninstall it, and I presume it still does.

However, by the sounds of it, when it crashes as below, it isn't actually getting as far as DOING anything much at all, let alone uninstalling the previous version...

Indeed - uninstall was necessary (registry settings only).
Import backup .zip of the MC10 library was necessary - I hoped, whilst installing
MC11 into the same directory as MC10, it would automatically import the MC10
library.

Cannot reproduce the error anymore, because after uninstalling (reg.keys) the installation
of MC11 was okay. After the uninstall I installed MC11 into the same dir as MC10 hoping it
would automatically 'read' the existing database and start out at the same place as MC10.
This was not the case though.

mrwul :

I had the same issue as you did.  I just re-downloaded the same binary and it installed ok.  I assumed that the binary may have gotten corrupted during or after download.

My experience has been that doing a co-resident install first before uninstalling MC10 works best to preserve and import all the settings into MC11.   On one of my pc's, I did this, and all worked well.  On the other, I did a straige upgrade (with uninstall) and had similar issues as you did.

I am not sure about this: I used the same MC11 binary to install, after uninstalling MC10,
i.e. the binary was okay.
