Merlot and Deer Backstraps
« on: October 10, 2002, 06:16:12 pm »

Just put my first deer of the year in the freezer and then feasted on the fresh backstraps and some fine Bellasari m.erlot. Life is best in October.

Though I am not much into hunting and am violently and vocally against bloodsports that do not end up in the animal being eaten (and respectfully killed) I have to agree that wild free range game tastes so far different from the packaged, chemically and hormonally raised, products that we get sold so much...

Fine wine and wild venison... Sounds like a treat...

Deer hunting is kinda like self defense around here. I have hit four in the last two years with the car. In each case I didn't have time to take my foot off the gas. One was in the city limits of a pretty good sized town. A 16 year old girl was killed last year in February when a deer jumped throught the window of a van she was riding in.
But to each his own and as long as we respect each others beliefs no problem.

Hopefully not in that order  :-[

The deer eat all the flowers in our yard. If we didn't have a six foot fence around the vegetable garden they'd eat those too. I still like having them around though.

Now if we could just get some wolves and cougars re-introduced to naturally control the predator/prey balance....

Humans have been hunting deer and other food animals since they learned to throw a rock so I consider it as natural as any other predator.
Wolves and cougars are nice to have around if they to are hunted just to keep the fear of humans in them. But they are predators that can't distiguish between wild animals and farm animals, (or your pet dog) and perhaps your child if they lose the fear of man.

KingSparta,

Didn't anyone ever tell you what PETA stands for?

People Eating Tasty Animals.

Deerhunter,

Congrates on the vennie. There is a picture I should download where a buck jumped off an overpass here in MN not long ago. Landed right in the front seat of a vehicle going under the same bridge. Guy was lucky, he's still alive. And you if you thought Junebugs were bad...

yea so they say...

cows would not normaly eat meat, but they were at one time grinding up parts of other animals and including that in cow feed.

there are parts of animals (some glans) that were being ground up and included in hamburger etc.... in years since past that also caused mential problems in Humans. the FDA stoped it once it was found to cause problems.

there was a show on TV about that at the same time the mad cow problem poped up. thats the only reason i know something about it.

I had deer when i was younger since my dad would go hunting for deer and Road Kill when i was a kid. i would not have the Guts so to speak on cutting up an animal, Or even fish to eat. thats why i pay someone to do it at the food store.

Yes about the the posts you can see.
But there is still a bg mistery:some posters never had any hambuger with ground glans................

They feed cows with flours made of ground part of animals[bones, glan and so on] include these of cows.

This kind of CANIBALISM lead to the 'mad cow disaster' disaster.

Humans can get it from liver, kidney, brains, intestines.Or by eating this parts or because this parts are used in manufactured foods.

Here they tried to give they own excrements mix with flours to eat to chickens..they all died.

Vegans may not be wrong, but they have a kind of fanatical behavior not very friendly
