Buffalo HD Media Receiver
« on: April 10, 2005, 07:39:30 am »

I'm starting this as a new thread since it has generated a lot of interest at AVS Forum.

We just bought a new Media Receiver (AKA UPnP Device) from Buffalo.  It's pretty interesting.

High Definition support
UPnP support
DVD drive
USB port allows connection of hard drive
Cost around $330

We bought it at Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0007MGEOC/104-0843475-0172744?%5F

Here's the very long thread at AVSForum:

I just bought a Buffalo Link Theater and am having trouble getting it to work with MC 11.0.270.  Not sure even where to start. Any help would be appreciated. I'm a newbie! I'm getting the following in the Plug-ins log:

It looks like the Buffalo is seeing Media Center's UPnP Server. What does the buffalo say?

Not sure what the Buffalo is saying. It works fine with the "out of the box" setup without MC involved. What I'm trying to do is run MC on my HTPC and have MC stream the music to the Buffalo to play through my A/V system, which the Buffalo is connected to. Is this even capable? Maybe I'm just unclear as to what it means when we say MC supports the Buffalo Link Theater. I've messed around with the audio out put in MC, but no luck there. Sorry for these probably lame-ass questions, but I'm just getting started here.

Start MC, and make sure the UPnP Server is started.

Turn on the Buffalo.

After the welcome page, it should display:

Link Theater login page
1. <icon> No disc
2. <icon> machinename (Media Center)

Selecting the Media Center option should let you browse your library.

Thanks for the info! I've got that working. Do you know if there is any way to use MC running on my HTPC to control/select what I want to play through the Buffalo? So, what I would like to do is to use the MC interface running on my HTPC to control what's being streamed to the Buffalo and not through the TV interface that Buffalo provides. I have a touch panel that I use to connect to the HTPC via RDC and would prefer to launch/control what's playing through that instead of the onscreen "out of the box" Buffalo provided interface.

I don't think there's any way to do that at the moment, those this may be possible in the future.

Ahhh ok. Well thought I would ask. Hopefully we'll see this kind of feature in the near future. I'm hoping there are others out there that have the same request as me...
