MJ Plug-In Code Named "Gonkulator"
« on: October 09, 2002, 10:03:31 am »

I Was Thinking The Other Day bout Making A MJ PlugIn And I Was Going To Call It A Name I Heard Back In The 1960's (This Project Has Already Been Started By Me).

Gonkulator     /gon'kyoo-lay-tr/ n.

[common; from the 1960s "Hogan's Heroes" TV series]

A pretentious piece of equipment that actually serves no useful purpose.

Usually used to describe one's least favorite piece of computer hardware.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I Was Thinking One Option To Put In It Was Removing The "The" From Like "The Beatles" Or "Beatles, The"

Also

Changing "Elton John" To "John, Elton"

Then Saving That Back To The File.

Any Other Ideas?

Yes, changing the name of the software to "This is anything but a Gonkulator"! ;D

I would certainly be forever in your debt is you were to go through with this...

One idea off the bat, maybe the option to save the new value to another field (custom or otherwise). This way, the other field could be used as a sort field only and the artist name could remain the same, if desired (This would really come in handy for CD labels, etc when you wouldn't want the lastname. firstname reversal...)

Another similar type of function would be those I've mentioned in other posts, the ability to Switch field values such as Artist <> Album, etc....

COOL!  :) :D ;D

sounds like A Good Idea

Maybe Better: Artist, Album And Title

Anyone Else With A Idea?

I do not know if it is possible and i am not sure to be able to say what i would like-but let's try.

A kind of option to put a number at the start of an album name. This number according to the date in the tags.
0=no date
1= the smaller number
2=the second small number.

If i have 5 Bob Dylan albums,in the tree in the left i have the albums in alphabetic order.

With this option,i can choose all the Dylan albums set to 'put a number before album name according to the year'

Like it,instead of
Dylan
albumA
Album B
album C
albumD

I will get:
Dylan
album 1D
albun 2A
Album 3C
album4B

All the albums in  chronological order
And if i burn a cd with mp3 of my Dylan albums,i will get this order.

Great idea,i am sure it is what you think!

How about stripping number prefixes from names of tracks added by software from other companies and making that change to both the MJ DB and the ID3 tag and the actual file on disk?

Zevele> The way I do that is I prefix the folder name with the year ie 1996 Album  That way when MJ sorts on the filename field it sorts the albums in the correct order without affecting the tags and having extra numbers which like was mentioned by Scronch you would not neccesarily want in a label etc.

God that has to be one of the longest sentences I have written and it was all in one breath!!!!

This is the great plus of a forum versus formal email/phone support.
You broke your head against a problem, and someone has a solution!
Until now i used to put a-b-c-d at the start of the album name using MJ taging.
But how you do it makes a lot of sense and it is a one time task for all burning, players.

I assume that you do it on the yellow Internet folder,i am right?

TODA RABA=thank you very much

Thats right just in Windows Explorer.  So for example my Pink Floyd Albums are stored in a folder called Pink Floyd, then for each album it is like 1967 Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, 1968 A Saucerful Of Secrets etc....

Hope this helps

Yeah.  :)

Real adds the track number to the beginning of file names when ripping.  I want to remove all references ID3 tag, filename, MJ DB.  :)

To all those who are seeking solutions:

The solution to, almost, al, tag related problems is very simple, in fact so simple that none ever had the courage to implement it, its like this: Al you need to do is, first, store all the tag information in an sql compliant database (never mind which one), second, create a program that updates the tags in the actual mp3 files based on the values in the corresponding database rows.

Now al you have to do is use sql to modify tags, which has enormous potential, like for example having a reverence table containing the artists default genre, (with one statement you can that change genre to your default for every song from that artist in the database), etc etc.

Of course, if this is part of an integrated solution, like MJ, you need some locking mechanism's to prevent concurrency problems etc, but its basically very simple, so, anyone going to build this?

Any comments on my view is always appreciated,

Tim Why Don't you Just Change The Rule In MJ And It Will Save That Track # For You Like

Tools, Options, File Naming And Location

Change The FileName Rule To Read

[TRACK #] - [NAME]

That Will Give You The Track Number And Song Name

I Also Noticed Someone Taling About Year In Front Of The Album Name That Should Be Abple To Be Done In MJ Now Like

Directory Rule:

[YEAR]\[ALBUM]

OR

[YEAR] [ALBUM]

Or

[YEAR] - [ALBUM]

Etc....

You Can Also Include The Rules In The Rename Fuction If You Wish.

Ok Well Take Out The Track Number In The MJ Rip Rules And MJ Reanme Rules And Rename Them.

Problem Solved

Besides You Never Gave A Sample What Your Talking ABout.

01 - Elton John - Song Name Can Already Be Striped By MJ. No Sence To Re-Invent A Round Rock With A Stick In It.
