Drops net connection while ripping
« on: October 06, 2002, 04:11:52 pm »

Hi All,

Firstly I'd like to say how much I like MJ.

However, I have one or two bugs which I'd like to fix up.

1. When ripping CDs I lose my (dial-up) net connection about 80% of the time. This does not happen when MJ is not running, I can usually get my full 10hrs timeout. I have a good ISP and I don't have any "hang up if not needed" options checked in my net controls.

2. When attempting to use CDDB I get a "malformed command sent from server to client" error every time. YADB seems to function OK.

3. Despite having "associate with audio CDs" unchecked, MJ starts to play every CD I insert, whether MJ is already running or not. It doesn't bother me when MJ wasn't already running, as I need to play the CD with something. But when I have MJ open and I insert CDs to rip this is very annoying, and time consuming as I have to wait for the disc to start playing before the 'stop' button functions and it all adds time and inconvenience before I can alter disc data and rip.

Even with these bugs MJ rocks for me, but I'd like to get to the bottom of them if possible.

Cheers,
WG

The first problem may be a Windows OS or a driver problem.

The second one is because MJ no longer uses CDDB.  Existing users who registered in the past should be able to still use their accounts.

Third problem, I don't know.  Try unchecking file association for cda.

Glad you like MJ.

I have the problem of my internet connection dropping so much when ripping that I never rip using MJ anymore.  I use EAC and have never had my internet connection drop.

And I have a broadband DSL connection, no dial up. so what ever the problem is, it's not dial up or usb dsl modem specific.

Sorry to hear you are having this problem, but it's good to know I'm not the only one seeing this problem.

I have the same problems than you specify. Even on dial-up or broadband ADSL, comunication is interrupted when ripping. My OS is different and I think my CD-ROM is also different.

I have malformed message from CDDB each time I access that service, even using my old registration. YADB seems to work OK, but has less information than CDDB. I found CD's on CDDB with another program that are not found on YADB.

So is very annoying to export that information to cdplayer.ini to capture it on MJ, and I have to do that operation for many CD's.

Nevertheless, MJ works very well and is a good classifying tool.
