Size wrong after screen saver
« on: July 13, 2005, 12:22:53 pm »

This has been around for a while I'm sure...

MC is maximized and the screen saver kicks in. Once you unlock the screen saver, MC always is further maximized to take the full desktop area, reaching under the task bar and another toolbar I have that is docked to the right side of the desktop. This prevents being able to see the bottom and right hand side of MC as they are covered by the task bar and toolbar.

Double-clicking the title bar once to restore down and double-clicking the title bar again will maximize MC properly.

It's not happening for me.
What screen saver settings are you using?

i've always had that as as well for every MC11 build installed, pretty sure it used to happen in MC10 too but that was so long ago i'm not 100% sure anymore.

"windows xp" screensaver with password protect

forgot to mention - it's done this on all three machines i've had.

I've never seen that on any machine.

Anything you have in common?  Maybe a different screen resolution for full screen?  Or a second monitor?  Etc., etc.

i'm at work at the moment but the machines were an ibm desktop (4 yrs old), compaq presario 2300 laptop (2 yrs old) and a hp a1040a desktop (1 month old).  no second monitors, no different resolutions (on the same machine)

all of the machines have been totally erased at some stage and it's always happened afterwards, you just got used to it or remembered to minimise before walking off.

all had xp home installed, i think they may have all had ati radeon video cards? i'll have to double check but i always used the ms xp drivers.

It's probably not the different PC's.

My first guess would be a video driver, but it's unlikely you're running the same video card and driver on several PC's.

Any other software related to the screen?

I have the same problem, but it isn't caused by the screensaver. About 60% of the time after a reboot, when I open MC this supersized MC shows up. It's the only program that does this and it's been doing it since MC 10 at least. I use the Thunderstorm skin on both. And I'm running win2k.

actually the HP and the compaq are both using radeon cards, the ibm is put away so i can't be sure about that one but it probably was as i do remember downloading the ati single driver thing (didn't work for me)

HP = RADEON X300 Series
Compaq = ATI Radeon IGP 320M

what cards do other people have that get this problem?

I have the symptom on both my home computer and my laptop at work.

I don't have the system info for the home machine with me, but here is the laptop's:

Do you run any other special screen related software or anything else unusual?

Nothing. It's a stock Dell Latitude D600 that is almost as it was when bought new a couple of months a go.

I've only added MC 11 and Ripbar, a toolbar that docks to the right of the desktop (www.ripbar.com).

no screen related software here either, all drivers are from winxp (no downloads/updates).

both the hp and the compaq have second monitor capability, although i don't use it, nor has it been setup.

One thing that makes think that this is not a video driver issue is that MC is the only program on both my laptop and my home PC that exhibits this behavior.

Not to say that it IS the video driver, but the fact that a single program exhibits the problem does not rule out the possibility that the bug is in the driver.  It could mean only that the program did the unique thing that triggered the bug in the driver or in the OS.
