I cannot play a DIVX encoded AVI file in MC even though i see it pulling up the divx player to play it ...
but, if i drag/drop the file into DIVX player, it plays fine.

I'm using latest MC 11.309 & DIVX 6 Player.  Only has issues with a few files (from torrent downloads of TV shows )

Actually MC should use only the DivX codec. Perhaps you mean that.

You could check the file formats with GSpot codec information tool: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/GSpot252b01.rar. MC uses system level codecs for showing AVI videos and GSpot can show which codecs are used when you render the videos with it.

It's entirely possible that the file you're using was encoded using XviD rather than DivX (unless you know for certain that it was encoded with DivX).  These are similar, but not exactly identical, and there are some problems with playback of certain XviD files using the DivX codec.  One thing to try would be to install ffdshow (get the October 12, 2004 alpha version).  This is a playback-only directshow filter (whereas the actual codecs can also encode video) but works splendidly and solves a great deal of playback problems.

You may want to check it out with the G-Spot Codec Information tool which will do a check for some errors and then if it finds some possibly re-encode the files with VirtualDub.
