Thumbnails missing-Won't rebuild
« on: July 22, 2005, 08:47:33 am »

For some reason, I have lost some of my thumbnails. I have all my coverart stored in the files. I have selected "Build missing thumbnails" in the import dialog and sat through a long import process. But, alas, still no thumbnails.

If the art is there in the files, why doesn't MC pick it up? How do I get MC to see these thumbnails. It seems I've had this problem before and I can't remember how I fixed it.

you can try the following (which have worked for me in the past):

1- Run the Import using the "Build Missing Thumbnails" option.
As mentioned above, I already tried that unsuccessfully.

2- Right Click on the album thumbnail, select "Remove Thumbnail", then either re-attach it using Right-Click -->> Image -->> 'Quick Find In Cover Art Folder', or if unsucessful try 'Get From Internet' or "Add From File" and manually point to the file.
My art is stored in tags. I would hate to have to go find all these covers and reapply them, especially when MC says they are there in the tags (see picture).

3- Look in your cover art folder and check the filenames . . . . . I discovered at one point that MC had apparently created duplicate cover art files which had a space between the end of the filename and the period before the filename extention, removing this additional copy og the cover art file remedied the issue.
The thumbnails are stored in the files so filename/location shouldn't be a factor.

You mentioned that you have had this in the past, as have I. So, I think this should be looked at as a bug.

JRiver, how do I get them back at this point?

Try erasing all thumbnails and rebuilding.

Well, the rebuild didn't work. I did find that hundreds of files that used to have coverart embedded in them, no longer did, despite the fact that MC still reported the thumbnails inside the files. They used to be there, they were there last week, MC still thinks they are there. But, when I do a "copy image to clipboard", nothing is there.

This is the reason I store coverart in files; so they will always be there. Now, I find that it is not always the case. Something strange going on here with thumbnails/coverart.

I have had this exact same thing happen, thus the suggestions.
Whether or not it makes sense to you, it is worth a try.
Worked for me, and I store in the tags also.
Your call . . . .
Thanks Lisa, I appreciated your suggestions. As I mentioned, I did try your suggestion #1 with no luck. I didn't feel #3 was applicable as I wasn't using files on the HD. I ended up having to rebuild them all (your #2) which is more of starting over rather than a possible fix.

I guess I'm just a bit frustrated because I've had this problem a couple of times now. As mentioned earlier, that is why I decided to store art in files, so that they would always be there. (in theory)
