I have no idea if this is even related to MJ, but if not maybe someone will have the answer.

WAV files are associated with MJ. If I DblClick one in Explorer, MJ is started and the WAV plays normally.

However, as sound effects, I get no sound. In Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices->Sounds I cannot get any sound from clicking the sound preview (nor do any sounds happen when the event fires).

Not sure I know how sound effects are handled by WinXP anyway. I seriously doubt MJ is invoked to play the *Ding* you get from an errant click.

Any ideas?

That's kind of funny.... I've seen posts here and Hydrogen Audio asking how to turn off system sounds, and you did it without even trying. Check your mixer settings (right click on the volume icon), see if everythings groovy there.

I have been in there 20 times already.

But the 21th time fixed it.

My 5.1 speakers had a problem with getting set back to "Desktop Speakers" - usually with MS games ala Links.

Under the Mixer Toolbox (it's a CMedia card) there was yet another speaker setting --- and once set properly it fixed it.
