DFX Won't Load in MC 11
« on: August 01, 2005, 11:47:57 am »

The version of DFX that I have (the same one off the plugin page) refuses to load in MC.  It won't even show up in the plugin manager.

Any ideas?

Yeah. Dump it... Search for DirectX plug-in and RGC high frequency stimulator.

Well, I did, and I have never looked back. Not to mention that the RGC one works with multi-zone. DFX doesn't.

Hey, not half bad.  Just took me forever to realize it was buried within the directx host menu.   :-[

I've been having problems with DFX 7.3 in Media Center 11.
Lots of communication with DFX support.
Had a dabble in the registry. Tried various things to no avail- What happens is the DFX splash screen keeps displaying asking me to enter registration number (when already entered it).
I've tried downloading rgAudio High Frequency Stimulator & installed that to it's own progrma folder on C drive (I've XP).
Is one meant to install this elsewhere ? as I cannot detect any difference or see any other plug-in options ?

Also any general ideas re DFX problem would be greatly appreciated.

Cabeja here again -one more note-
Just tried installing rgc Audio Stimulator to plug-ins folder instead-
No difference :(

I still want DFX to work!

No, you should just install RGC to it's own folder. But did you install the DirectX host plug-in? First you install the RGC, then you install the DirectX plug-in from the MC DSP plug-ins download page. Finally you exit MC and restart it. Click on the DSP, and you will have the host as a new option. Mark it as active, and click the plus in the right pane. Then you can see the RGC, and double click it to add it. Activate it as well (new checkbox to the left of the main RGC pane) and at the very end you choose "Gimme that MP3" in the listbox. That should be it.

Thanks.
Only after my last post did I think of looking for DSP plugins & found the DIRECT X one.
I installed it after I'd reinstalled rgc Audio Stimulator to plug-ins folder.
The latter came up as an option like you said (even though sounds like I've installed it to thew wrong place !)
However, I cannot see "gimme that mp3". Whereabouts exactly should that be?
Also with  Direct X plugin (which is great fun as well as being useful) I found WMT volume does not seem to work. Curious as to why, & what it's like.

I've now reinstalled rgc audio stimulator & it's got its own folder.
Then reinstalled the DirectX plugin.
Same result rgc is there, but cannot "gimme that mp3".
one negative thing I must say about the Direct X plugin is that it does not like a lot of fidling with. Had to restart my system quite frequently when using it, owing to things freezing up.

Weird. I have had that problem on one computer only, and that was a Win98. If you have WinXP SP2, have you upgraded to SP2, or did you install a slipstreamed SP2 version from ground up? I know that those upgrades can be very problematic.

I apologise for my ignorance in this regard, but not sure of the difference between "slipsteamed SP" or upgrade.
Maybe I installed it "from the ground up".
I had to do a system recovery not long after SP2 came out, so after running recovery discs, I ran the SP2 disc.
I'm wondering if it's worth my reinstalling MC11 (I'd save my skins & visualisation folders to avoid having to hunt for all those again).
Bizzarely I've always had to install J Rivers in Safe Mode- More recent versions have not installing by normal means.
Not sure what's been blocking it.
I'll probably just go ahead & do this. I'll take off DFX for J Rivers as well pre reinstall of MC11.
Maybe, who knows this might help rectrify the problem with kep on having to re-enter regitration code for DFX for JR.
Maybe if reinstall this latter plug-in in safe mode it might behave !

Well it was worth a try.
Re-installed MC11 in safe mode ( & DFX plugin normally as would not install in safe mode)
Anyway, no difference to anything.
(I'd removed registry entries as well)

So where on the screen should be "gimme that mp3" ?
Feel like I'm missing out :(

I don't wish to sound indifferent, but if it were me, I'd reinstall XP, then begin from scratch.

You seem to have had multiple problems, even mentioning a system restore.

Format, install XP, patch things, try again.

Tried again-Reinstalled MC11 after cleaning registry of it. Likewise DFX. Discovered that it was SPYGUARD that had been blocking installation of MC11 in normal mode.Installed fine when disabled all its options.
fterwards, still had problem with Direct X plugin. Not sure about DFX one as now made too many registrations for this, & plugin being blocked till support sort this out.
Thanks for the ideas. I'm reluctant to do a complete system recovery, as it's only the MC11 plugins that are playing up.
I don't have a XP installation cd -it's incorporated into my pc manufacter's recovery discs.
Now read about slipstream installations but cannot do this without XP disc.

Since reinstalling MC11 two display plugins are not working -ARSENOLITE-well had not downloaded this particular one b4 so not sure how this would have behaved. Also SLIDESHOW -just no options for it-like it does not exist.
May try a reinstall of MC11 again but delete all J River entries not just MC11 ones (& trash program file).

I may try a reinstall of SP2....
It's worth a try.. !

Not sure why ARSENOLITE not working but now see site does say SLIDESHOW if for an older version of MC.
 Getting back to thread..
Tried removing stuff, running reg cleaner software & then xp tools checks
& then reo-installing J Rivers etc.

I won't know if there is any fault remaining re DFX as once registered too many times unitl this is sorted out by Support (Monday onwards I guess) then unable to get full use of all features of DFX  plugin.

Have not ventured down the route of re-installing SP2.. as yet.
Want to see what happens with DFX.

I'm still curious about "GIMME THAT MP3" - Where should one see it exactly ?

DFX Support eventually got back to me & sent a new installation code. All seemd ok & I was putting the previous problems down to having installed DFX for Jivers when  SPYGUARD was on.
However, now got splash screen again & says I've registerd again.
Only thing done between successful uses is to close pc down & restart up.
Wonder if something is being set off on start up.
Never been fully able to clean DFX out of registry - evident as it always knows if I'm re-registering.
I really would like to clean it all out thoroughly ! & start again. I don't want to have to do a system recovery (not for one program).
Re "Gimme that mp3" -wonder-does it appear on the web pagescreen ? My Zone Alarm Security Suite will block things it sees as ads.

Any ideas how to TOTALLY remove DFX from the registry etc ?

I'm still trying to sort DFX plug-in out.
Discovered changing the value of the "stat" key in the registry was equivalent to putting in my registration code again.
However, result same. Usually after a computer start up or if use "Library browser" then I'd get the splash screen again.
Changing the stat value would rectify it, but not if I started off by opening a file in "Library browser".
(It would be ok if just opened file in "playing now").
"Library browser" is a new feature isn't it (or am I not remembering version 10 correctly?). I wonder if there is some conflict between it & DFX ?
Maybe not.
Now wondering if changing permissions in the registry might help ! (Aaaah).

Anyway, there MUST be some way round this !

Maybe I should go back to using  Media Center 10.
I don't seem to recall a problem until I started using version 11.
I've no mp3  player so a lot that aspect of version 11 means nothing to me.
I do quite like the library browser though, but reckon doing without it to get DFX working may be worth it.

I've finally found a DFX install solution for MC 11.

If you completely close MC, then install DFX from their site (http://www.fxsound.com/dfx/index.php?vendor=0&subvendor=0&plus=0) it will install properly and be available when you restart MC.

I just found this and the RGD works well except that it only seems to stay on the default setting.  How do you make it stick to 'gimme that mp3'?

Select it, apply it, then leave the plugin closed. Otherwise it opens at default.
None the worse for wear sound-wise.
