LONG pauses when browsing network drive folders.
« on: August 02, 2005, 08:06:14 pm »

When browsing mp3s on a network drive that that are currently NOT in the MC11 library, I'm getting LONG pauses before the songs are displayed.  I checked the network activity via the Task Manager, and discovered that MC11 is only using 6% of the 100mbps connection during this time.  There aren't any network issues, however, given that when I "copy" the SAME directory from within MC11 and "paste" it to a local drive, it uses about 80% of the 100mbps connection -- i.e. MC11 can copy and paste the entire directory faster than it can simply "look at" this directory.

For some reason MC11 seems to be doing more than just looking at the files when browsing over the network (on files that, once again, are not in the library) and it's doing this very slowly, only using 6% of the available bandwidth.  This makes it extremely difficult to browse through songs on another drive that are not in the local library.

This issue does NOT happen with MC10 on the same two systems.

Thanks,

Larry

Is it a Samba drive?

Is it a Samba drive?

No -- It's simply a shared, mapped network drive between WinXP Pro machines.

Note that as long as MC11 remains open, I don't get the long pause when browsing a folder that has already been opened during this session.  If I close MC and come back later, however, the pauses return.

Thanks again,

Larry

Does it depend on whether you're in a view that uses thumbnails?

Here's another thread on a similar subject.  I'll close this one.
