This build won’t install ether. I completely removed build 52 and unloaded everything but basic windows drivers and services, none of which have changed since I installed 11.0.252. It just quits after the preparing to install progress window.

Now that I’ve uninstalled MC I can’t get any build to install. I haven't changed anything since build 11.0.252 and other program installs work fine. What gives ?

Is the PC connected to the Internet.

Other programs causing problems?  Virus checker, etc.

Wait longer.  30 minutes.  Just to see if you get an error message.

This is a common problem if you have some kinds of Spam blockers installed.

After the installation quits, look in your windows temp directory location and see if you can find a directory names RarSFX0 (or something close to that).  If you do, run the install.exe in that directory and your MC install should continue.

If you didn't customize your windows location for the temp folder, it usually in "C:\Documents and Settings\<your login name>\Local Settings\Temp".

This is my home computer it is connected to the Internet.
There is nothing running that wasn’t running when I installed 11/0/252 nonetheless I rebooted in diagnostic startup and attempted to install with the same result.

I don’t have any anti-spyware or spam blockers installed, just Nod32 and Process Guard but running InstallWizard.exe from my temp folder worked thank you.

Oh...yep, I bet one or both of them are blocking the install from running (spawned from the main MC install program you downloaded, behind the scenes).

Never interfered with the installation before and neither have changed since I installed 11.0.252. Plus the install won’t run normally in safe mode or diagnostic startup ether so I don’t see how they could be the cause.

You might want to clean your temp folder.

I emptied my temp folder and ran the install again but it still just quit. I have to continue the install from the temp folder.

Well, at least you got it to install again.  Besides trying Safe mode, did you try normal mode without those NOD32 or Process Guard programs running or disabled?  Process Guard has a block/event log, did you look there?  Maybe NOD32 has a block/event log too (I don't know).  Also, some system shell hook programs can cause this type of problem (seen that reported in the past as well).

All I can say is it installs fine for others.  Maybe you can post your system info and do some more process of elimination tests to figure it out.  And, for now, just install from that RarSFX0 directory for the time being.

I'm having trouble here as well where the installer extracts all it's files and then dies. I could have SWORN I saw a post on here a while back regarding a specific conflict with SpwywareBlaster and/or SpywareGuard, but can't find it now.

I disabled all protection in SpywareBlaster and exited SpywareGuard, but MC install still terminates after extraction. Running the Install Wizard executable from the user temp folder works fine, but is there any negative impact to installing MC this way? "Something" that a normal installation does must not be getting done now no?

Also, has anyone from JRiver been able to explain 'why' this actually happens? I've got tons and tons of apps that extract to temp then run their install - some of them also packaged with Install Wizard and a multitude of others like Install Shield, Setup Factory, Ghost Installer, etc and MC is the only single application that can't even install. Program usage conflicts with invasive spyware and virus blockers are understandable... but installations?

No idea why.  It's fine to install the way you have though.

There was a spybot problem recently.  That one's in the "Weird and Wonderful" thread which you can find from the FAQ thread here.  The problem was different but it could be related.
