Philips SLA 5500
« on: August 07, 2005, 12:49:41 pm »

I am new to this forum so bear with me.
This is the J River Media Center that I like  however I can't get it to work with
my Philips SLA 5500.  Is it not compatible or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

Welcome to Interact.  I have no idea whether it can be made to work.  I just did a quick search at google and found this:

http://www.streamiumcafe.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=7243&an=0&page=0#7243

It may be a UPnP device.  If so, please see the UPnP thread here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=28643.0

You'll need to use a very recent version of MC11.  Build 309 or 310 would work.

Please let us know if you get it working.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Maybe I don't understand something.

I can get my SLA to work with the Philips Media Manager, however the software is very slow and I don;t like it.

I thought the Meda Center could be used in its place.
In other words not start the Philips manager, start the J River upnp server instead and that go to the reciever and see the J River instead of the Philips MM?

Am I missing something?
Thanks

One of the posts in the streamiumcafe thread says it's a Noxon with Philips branding.  MC11 will support that.  Check the options part of the UPnP plug-in.  Check the UPnP thread here for information on setup.

This quote is from the link Jim provided:
Quote
sla5500 is a NOXON audio from terratech in a philips packing

look her ...
http://productsen.terratec.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=228

with the noxon firmware you dont nead to do alla that you did, u just add the stations you like, you surf in to the device and add them

Terratec site has good information. UPnP is mentioned too.

I have no means to check this properly, but you may need to install Terratec firmware if the Philips firmware is restricted to its own software somehow.

What did you try?

Did you start MC's UPnP server?  Did you set the options first?  Did you choose Noxon?

Jim
thanks for helping me through this.
I did what you said and when the servier starts it says

08/07/05 16:44:46 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.34 starting...
08/07/05 16:44:47 - Server running on address  (I deleted the ip address from this post)
08/07/05 16:44:47 - Running

When I go to the receiver though it doesn't see MC.  Do you think I needed to download some firmware, I wasn't sure which download was correct.
Thanks

In the UPnP thread I pointed to above, there should be instructions for how to turn on logging and how to send it to gateley.  Please use that thread now.  Tell him that you have set it up and told MC's UPnP server that it is talking with a Noxon.
