Spanish language file; help please?
« on: August 15, 2005, 02:06:39 pm »

is there a spanish language file for MC?  i want to convert MC to display in spanish, and have read a couple fo posts about changing to different languages, but don't know how.

I tried searching, but no luck.

I will be online for a couple of hours, at an internet cafe in mexico, so any help would be greatly appreciated, soon if possible.

Thanks

I don't think anyone has done a Spanish file.  I may be wrong.

This (from the FAQ) will show you how it works:

German Translation for MC11
Click on the link in Bytestar's signature in this thread to install it:

The file is installed in the Custom Resources folder under Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Data.

To uninstall, just delete the file.  If the file isn't there, MC reverts to English.

thanks Jim.

I haven't looked at the file from Bystar yet.  Is it hard to make the translation file?

I can try to work with her to get a Spanish file done, but don't even know where to start.

Any advice on how to start?

Also, is it possible to have one version open to English, and a different shortcut open to Spanish?

It's easy to do.  Just install the German version and take a look at the file itself.  Start with the standard file ( C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Data\Default Resources\Language.txt) and edit it with Notepad.  Save it as Language.txt in C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Data\Custom Resources

Thanks Jim.  i downloaded it, and will look at it and the regular file (assuming I can find it) later tonight.

Any idea if i can have both versions open with different shortcuts.  ie, one shortcut opens in spanish, and the other opens in English, without haveing to manipulate the langueage file?

Thanks

Here are the instructions from the file itself:

# Media Center language file (must be saved as Unicode)
#
# Enter data entries like the samples below.
# The first line is the English phrase, and the next line is what it will get
# replaced with during translation.
#
# So replace the second line with the appropriate text.  You can add or remove
# phrases.  Just be sure to keep each phrase set as two lines.
#
# You can insert comments by starting lines with a '#'.  Empty lines between
# phrase sets are optional.
#
# Store your customized Language.txt file in [MC]\Data\Custom Resources so
# it won't get overwritten on install.  MC uses files from [MC]\Data\Custom Resources
# first, then falls back to [MC]\Data\Default Resources if a custom file isn't found.
